Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 26th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.874/326.71, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.727/80.46, Was #19

McMillen launched hard and keep the candles lit all the way down the track to go to the number six spot. McMillen runs a career best speed here. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.189, 660ft-3.110/277.77 mph.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.826/316.90, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.209/79.93, Was #18
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.893/313.95, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.230/79.58, Was #19

Massey launched hard and the flames were high over the rear wing all the way down the track. He goes to the number one spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.164, 660ft-3.063/281.30 mph. Vandergriff with a good looking pass to get in the show. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.183, 660ft-3.116/272.39 mph.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 4.060/258.32, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.326/126.23, Was #18
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 3.884/316.30, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.912/95.69, Was #19

Buff was using up his engine and had quick flash of flames and he will start over tomorrow. Zizzo was on a good pass until right in the lights when the engine let go with a quick flash of flame and the word on the top end is there is oil. That will cost Zizzo five points, but he is in the show for now. T.J. Zizzo's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.194, 660ft-3.116/277.20 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 4.358/188.70, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.258/119.75, Was #19
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.823/318.69, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.685/159.93, Was #18

Force started mixing up cylinders just before half track and then it appeared to bang the blower as the chutes deployed. Grubnic launched hard and was straight down the groove with a great looking pass to go to the number one spot. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.171, 660ft-3.069/283.25 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.234/201.52, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.566/169.53, Was #19
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.437/188.12, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.541/181.67, Was #18

Millican was on a good pass until about half track when the engine went silent. Palmer banged the blower around half track.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 5.929/113.55, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.965/298.54, Was #13
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.819/322.04, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.491/245.36, Was #19

Todd had a lot of engine smoke around 300 feet and coasted on through the 1000 feet. Dixon launched hard with the header flames shooting high over the rear wing. He keeps it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.160, 660ft-3.065/282.24 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.128/213.67, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.906/316.30, Was #13
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.816/314.83, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.205/202.91, Was #16

Schumacher engine goes silent around 800 feet and he will start tomorrow with no-time. Brown with a great looking pass to go to the top of the list. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.052/281.25 mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.631/163.61, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.841/311.41, Was #7
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.794/323.19, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.886/312.42, Was #12

Lucas started to haze the tires and clicked it off. Langdon keep the big Goodyears stuck and goes to the number one spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.154, 660ft-3.047/286.25 mph.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.794/325.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.837/320.51, Was #7
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 7.163/93.60, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.866/318.77, Was #10

Bernstein is up in smoke right off the starting line and clicks it off. alBalooshi launched hard and matched his teammates E.T., but was faster so he will get the No. 1 spot. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.163, 660ft-3.051/286.50 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 4.992/140.37, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.833/317.42, Was #7
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.791/321.65, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.842/319.29, Was #9

Torrence breaks the tires loose around half track and clicks it off. Kalitta launched hard and was straight down Broadway to go to the number one spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.152, 660ft-3.042/286.13 mph.
