Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 26th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.965/298.54, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 64 percent, barometer 30.09 inches, adjusted altitude 2,094 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

todd making his first pass this season. Todd launched hard and keep it hooked up to make a nice pass. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.201, 660ft-3.154/263.41 mph.


Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.541/181.67, Now #2
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 5.326/126.23, Now #3

Buff is up in smoke early and then clicked it off. Palmer started to lose traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 6.912/95.69, Now #4
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 7.727/80.46, Now #5

McMillen starts to lose traction as soon as he hits the throttle. Zizzo starts to lose traction by 100 feet.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.491/245.36, Now #2
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 5.258/119.75, Now #4

Force starts to smoke the tires early and clicks it off. Dixon was on a good pass until just past half track when he started to haze the tires and clicked it off. Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.908 sec., 330ft-2.405, 660ft-3.514/223.43 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 7.230/79.58, Now #8
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.833/317.42, Now #1

Vandergriff is up in smoke early and clicks it off. Torrence launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.072/281.19 mph.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.685/159.93, Now #6
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.566/169.53, Now #5

Both cars are up in smoke by 330 feet and they both click them off.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.866/318.77, Now #3
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.837/320.51, Now #2

This was a great side-by-side drag race...alBalooshi goes to the number two spot. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.173, 660ft-3.025/439.16 mph. Bernstein is right there with to the number three spot. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.193, 660ft-3.106/280.02 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.842/319.29, Now #4
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.841/311.41, Now #3

Another great drag race with Lucas going to the number three spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.170, 660ft-3.058/318.17 mph. Kalitta goes to the number four spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.085/280.60 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.886/312.42, Now #6
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 7.209/79.93, Now #15

Massey is up in smoke right off the starting line and clicks it off. Langdon with a good clean pass to get in the top half of the show. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.107/273.44 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 4.205/202.91, Now #9
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.906/316.30, Now #7

Brown was on a good pass until just before half track when he started to haze the tires. Schumacher with a clean pass to go to the number seven spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.208, 660ft-3.140/276.86 mph.
