Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1

BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 26th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: David Barron Runs 7.285/179.83, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 65 percent, barometer 30.11 inches, adjusted altitude 2,015 feet, track temperature 121 degrees.



Barronn skirted the centerline on the top end.


Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.096/186.00, Now #1
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.654/136.18, Now #3

DeSantis was also close to the centerline on the top end. There's a stiff crosswind taking them that way.

Left Lane: James Surber Runs 7.493/139.89, Now #3
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena No Time, Now #5

Camarena got to the ready line, then pushed the bike off to the side.

Left Lane: Michael Phillips No Time, Now #7
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.121/187.60, Now #2

Smith's engine stalled once befgore she staged, but they are allowed one restart.

Phillips waited through all that, then left before the tree was activated.

Smith crowded the centerline, but stayed in her lane.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.061/187.86, Now #1
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 10.306/79.73, Now #7

Sullivan's bike was wobbling and she lifted. Nice run by Ellis to move to the head of the pack, for now.

Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.934/192.19, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.000/191.13, Now #2

Two clean runs, two new names at the top of the list and our first six-second run of the day.

Left Lane: Adam Arana Runs 7.001/189.52, Now #4
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.913/193.60, Now #1

Very nice run by Ray to take over the top spot.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.053/191.05, Now #6
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.050/190.83, Now #5



Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.962/191.38, Now #4
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.955/193.24, Now #3

Smith spun the tire, got over near the wall, never lifted.

David Barron is on the bump spot at 7.285.

Left Lane: John Hall Runs 6.964/189.34, Now #6
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.927/193.24, Now #2

Arana made a strong run, ended up second on the list. Hall also made a good run. That bumped Barron and Angie Smith. Now Redell Harris is on the bump spot at 7.096.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.929/194.30, Now #3
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.081/166.54, Now #13

Steve Johnson made a great opening run and is well up in the field.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.911/191.65, Now #2
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.876/195.39, Now #1

Pollacheck had a great run, but Hector Jr. had an even better run and they go to the head of the list.

Scotty Pollacheck's incremental times: 60ft-1.070 sec., 330ft-2.874, 660ft-4.404/160.19 mph, 1,000ft-5.748.
Hector Arana Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.068 sec., 330ft-2.863, 660ft-4.389/160.88 mph, 1,000ft-5.729.

That bumps Chip Ellis and Shawn Gann, putting Andrew Hines on the bump spot at 7.050.
