Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Session #1

BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 26th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Jeffrey Cummins Jr. Runs 9.786/93.08, Now #2
Right Lane: Steve Matusek Runs 6.074/246.48, Now #1

Cummins Jr. making his NHRA Pro Mod debut and he has a lot of tire shake right at the hit and clicks it off. Matusek with a good pass to start the weekend. Steve Matusek's incremental times: 60ft-1.029 sec., 330ft-2.758, 660ft-4.072/193.38 mph, 1,000ft-5.161.

Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 12.235/56.96, Now #4
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 5.960/244.25, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 65 percent, barometer 30.11 inches, adjusted altitude 2,015 feet, track temperature 121 degrees.

Knowles with violent tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off. Janis with his quickest and fastest pass of the season to go to the number one spot for now. Mike Janis' incremental times: 60ft-1.021 sec., 330ft-2.650, 660ft-3.937/193.13 mph, 1,000ft-5.036.


Left Lane: Clint Satterfield Runs 6.331/237.30, Now #3
Right Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 8.407/85.96, Now #4

Rowe apparently banged the blower because the chutes came out around half track. Satterfield was out of the groove early and was real close to the wall, but stayed with it.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 9.429/95.99, Now #6
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.019/242.71, Now #2

Castellana shook and clicked it off...Smith with a good clean pass to go to the number two spot. Rickie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.682, 660ft-3.989/192.03 mph, 1,000ft-5.091.

Left Lane: Pete Farber Runs 6.068/245.76, Now #4
Right Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 6.055/245.36, Now #3

This was a good side-by-side drag race...Lang goes to the number three spot. Kenny Lang's incremental times: 60ft-1.020 sec., 330ft-2.718, 660ft-4.031/191.46 mph, 1,000ft-5.133. Farber goes to the number four spot. Pete Farber's incremental times: 60ft-1.033 sec., 330ft-2.754, 660ft-4.052/198.26 mph, 1,000ft-5.150.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.068/244.74, Now #6
Right Lane: Von Smith Runs 5.988/244.65, Now #2

Smith with a real nice pass to go to the number two spot. Von Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.005 sec., 330ft-2.661, 660ft-3.960/192.41 mph, 1,000ft-5.064. Coughlin with a good pass to get into the top half of the show. Troy Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-1.026 sec., 330ft-2.765, 660ft-4.062/200.26 mph, 1,000ft-5.149.
