By Larry Sullivan

BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 26th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:
Left Lane: Kevin Duet Runs 6.953/179.97/-0.477, Now #2 A/ND Index: 7.43
Right Lane: Charles Watson Runs 8.247/163.87/-0.513, Now #1 D/SM Index: 8.76

11:28 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 68 percent, barometer 30.18 inches, adjusted altitude 1,696 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Two clean runs to open the first session.

Left Lane: Mike Trumble Runs 7.941/170.97/-0.589, Now #1 A/SMA Index: 8.53
Right Lane: Dennis Smiley Runs 7.606/174.12/0.206, Now #4 BB/AM Index: 7.40

Nice first pass by Trumble to go to #1 for now.

Left Lane: Keith Mawhee Runs 8.449/128.27/0.169, Now #4 D/A Index: 8.28
Right Lane: Adam White Runs 15.196/54.07/7.766, Now #6 A/ND Index: 7.43

White slowed immediately.

Left Lane: Raymond Martin Runs 7.666/171.64/-0.624, Now #2 K/AA Index: 8.29
Right Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 6.792/196.39/-1.488, Now #1 E/A Index: 8.28

McGaha came up as an E/Altered, that's probably not correct. Nice passes by both cars.

Left Lane: Alan Ellis Runs 6.540/202.58/-0.610, Now #3 A/AA Index: 7.15
Right Lane: Jim Kimbrough Runs 6.983/192.99/-0.607, Now #4 C/DA Index: 7.59

Two more nice runs.

Left Lane: Kevin Self Runs 7.782/167.61/-0.688, Now #2 F/EA Index: 8.47
Right Lane: Adam Hickey Runs 8.186/164.19/-0.434, Now #9 C/SMA Index: 8.62

Self had a nice run, but came up a hundredth short of the #1 spot.

Left Lane: Clark Smiley Runs 7.436/183.84/-0.554, Now #8 BB/A Index: 7.99
Right Lane: Craig Bourgeois Runs 6.809/200.02/-0.581, Now #7 B/DA Index: 7.39

Right Lane: Keith Hall Runs 7.281/164.87/-1.719, Now #1 E/SM Index: 9.00

Hall's class is definitely incorrect - it should be straightened out when we get the qualifying sheet.

Left Lane: Scott Cashio Runs 8.475/159.83/-0.505, Now #12 D/SMA Index: 8.98
Right Lane: Charlie Stewart Runs 7.977/135.48/-0.273, Now #15 J/D Index: 8.25

Right Lane: Bruno Massel Runs 6.650/202.45/-0.590, Now #7 I/D Index: 7.24

Carbery slowed, then the track crew took a hard look at Massel's lane and found a trail of fluid. Cleanup in aisle two.

Left Lane: Bill Kent Runs 6.706/201.07/-0.564, Now #11 B/D Index: 7.27
Right Lane: Duane Robison Runs 7.330/187.05/-0.600, Now #7 C/A Index: 7.93
