Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations

CONCORD, N.C. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual Dollar General NHRA Four-Wide Nationals fueled by Full Throttle:

Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.74 inches, adjusted altitude 772 feet, track temperature 100 degrees.

Morgan Lucas has lost in round one every year here at the Four-Wide.
David Grubnic lost in round two last year and lost in round one in 2011 and 2010.
Steve Torrence lost in round two in 2012 and 2011 and lost in round one in 2010.
Larry Dixon did not race here at the Four-Wide last year, was runner-up in 2011 and lost in round 2 in 2010.
Lucas is out of the gate first and crosses the finish line first, Dixon with his quickest pass this year and move3 on. Grubnic with a nice pass in the losing effort, but will not advance and Torrence started to haze the tires on the top end.

Finish Order & Margins: 1. Morgan Lucas was 0.0908 sec./about 43 feet ahead of 2. Larry Dixon, who was 0.016 sec./about 7 feet ahead of 3. David Grubnic, who was 0.169 sec./about 68 feet ahead of 4. Steve Torrence

Khalid alBalooshi lost in round one last year.
Doug Kalitta made it to the final round last, he lost in round two in 2011 and was runner-up in 2010.
Bob Vandergriff made it t0 the final round last year, lost in round two in 2011 and was the runner-up in 2010.
Leah Pruett is in her first Four-Wide.

The pod featuring alBalooshi, Kalitta, Vandergriff and Pruett all qualified within 5/100ths of a second of each other and that makes it the most competitive group in the first round.

Vandergriff is out of the gate first, but Kalitta runs him down for the win light, Vandergriff was second and will move on. alBalooshi with his quickest pass of the weekend in the losing effort. Pruett with her quickest pass of the weekend and her career fastest pass in the losing effort.

Finish Order & Margins: 1. Doug Kalitta was 0.0045 sec./about 2 feet ahead of 2. Bob Vandergriff, who was 0.008 sec./about 4 feet ahead of 3. Khalid alBalooshi, who was 0.003 sec./about 17 inches ahead of 4. Leah Pruett

Spencer Massey won last year and made it to the final round in 2011.
T.J. Zizzo is in his first Four-Wide race.
Antron Brown made it to the final round last year, lost in round two in 2011 and made it to the final round in 2010.
Brandon Bernstein lost in round two last year, lost in round one in 2011 and 2010.

Antron Brown is the only TF driver to have won at last one round at each race so far this year. Spencer Massey is the only TF driver in round won who has won this race before.

Massey with a great light and never trailed for the win. Brown and Bernstein left together and were side-by-side until on the top end when Brown dropped a cylinder and Bernstein took second place. Zizzo with his quickest and fastest pass of the year in the losing effort.

Finish Order & Margins: 1. Spencer Massey was 0.0755 sec./about 36 feet ahead of 2. Brandon Bernstein, who was 0.032 sec./about 15 feet ahead of 3. Antron Brown, who was 0.039 sec./about 18 feet ahead of 4. T.J. Zizzo

Shawn Langdon lost in round one last year, went to the final round in 2011 and lost in round two in 2010.
Tony Schumacher was runner-up last year, in 2011 and 2010 he lost in round two.
Brittany Force and Sidnei Frigo are rookies, so this is their first shot at the Four-Wide race.

Frigo can't get the car back after the burnout and drives off the top end.
Schumacher with the starting line advantage, but Langdon had the lead by 100 feet and takes the win with the quickest pass of the day. Schumacher with his quickest pass of the weekend and was second across the finish line. Force matched her qualifying time in the losing effort.
