CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Lane 2: Wesley Wells Runs 7.156/189.58, Now #2
Lane 3: James Surber No Time, Now #3
Lane 4: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.089/188.65, Now #1

2:45 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 55 percent, barometer 29.10 inches, adjusted altitude 3,244 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

Surber leaves before the tree is activated and did not receive a time.

Lane 1: Angie Smith Runs 9.138/104.02, Now #4
Lane 2: Redell Harris No Time, Now #6
Lane 3: Joe DeSantis No Time, Now #7
Lane 4: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.150/189.26, Now #2

Harris and DsSantis both left before the tree was activated. The bikes have not ran four-wide in three years and seem to be having problems getting used to the tree.

Lane 1: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.966/195.48, Now #1
Lane 2: Michael Phillips Runs 7.249/191.00, Now #5
Lane 3: LE Tonglet Runs 7.681/130.18, Now #6
Lane 4: Michael Ray Runs 9.425/90.92, Now #8

Four complete runs this time. Underdahl gets in the sixes and takes the top spot for now. Ray had problems and had to click it off early.

Lane 1: Shawn Gann Runs 6.943/193.93, Now #1
Lane 2: Adam Arana Runs 7.090/192.82, Now #5
Lane 3: Mike Berry Runs 7.132/186.69, Now #6
Lane 4: Matt Smith Runs 6.961/182.01, Now #2

Gann makes an impressive run to take the top spot for now. Smith gets in behind Gann in the second spot.

Lane 1: Chip Ellis Runs 7.056/188.17, Now #6
Lane 2: Eddie Krawiec No Time, Now #19
Lane 3: John Hall Runs 6.930/191.08, Now #1
Lane 4: Andrew Hines Runs 7.018/190.62, Now #5

Krawiec broke after the burnout and did not make a pass. Hall makes a great pass to take the pole for now.

Lane 1: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.939/193.10, Now #2
Lane 2: Hector Arana Runs 11.037/78.36, Now #19
Lane 3: Steve Johnson Runs 7.094/188.70, Now #11
Lane 4: Hector Arana Jr. Runs 6.970/193.10, Now #6

Pollacheck makes a clean run and moves into the second spot. Arana Sr. has problems, clicks it off early and will not make the field this round.
