Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Fourth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Marie Ferriolo No Time, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 69 percent, barometer 29.20 inches, adjusted altitude 2,682 feet, track temperature 85 degrees.

Ferriolo did her burnout and then was shutoff.


Left Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 5.818/249.86, Now #1
Right Lane: Bill Naves Runs 7.138/180.02, Now #2

Bogolo with a clean pass to start the weekend. Naves drove through shake.

Left Lane: Duane Beers Runs 5.851/222.36, Now #2
Right Lane: Cassie Simonton Runs 5.896/205.57, Now #3

Simonton with a whisp of tire smoke around half track, but drove through it. Beers made a quick move toward the centerline and then was over close to the wall, but stayed with it.

Left Lane: Andy Bohl Runs 5.759/256.02, Now #2
Right Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.614/258.76, Now #1

Manzo with a great pass and was straight down the groove to the number one spot. Frank Manzo's incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.513, 660ft-3.720/205.51 mph, 1,000ft-4.746. Bohl with a good pass to go to the number two spot. Andy Bohl's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.609, 660ft-3.841/202.52 mph, 1,000ft-4.881.

Left Lane: Dale Brand No Time, Now #9
Right Lane: Paul Noakes Runs 5.628/259.61, Now #2

Brand did the burnout and was leaking some fluids so he was shut off. Noakes launched hard and keep it hooked up. Paul Noakes' incremental times: 60ft-0.966 sec., 330ft-2.522, 660ft-3.730/206.01 mph, 1,000ft-4.759.

Left Lane: Mark Rogers Runs 5.828/243.24, Now #5
Right Lane: Ray Drew Runs 5.853/254.38, Now #7

Rogers with a good clean pass to get into the top half of the show. Mark Rogers' incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.576, 660ft-3.826/197.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.907. Drew was right there with him...Ray Drew's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.634, 660ft-3.909/197.51 mph, 1,000ft-4.967.

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.643/257.04, Now #3
Right Lane: Todd Veney Runs 5.678/254.04, Now #4

Foster was loose right off the line, but stayed with it to go to the number three spot. Chris Foster's incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.506, 660ft-3.733/203.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.769. Veney with a great pass to go to the number four spot. Todd Veney's incremental times: 60ft-0.976 sec., 330ft-2.536, 660ft-3.756/202.91 mph, 1,000ft-4.794.

Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.727/257.04, Now #6
Right Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.670/256.11, Now #4

A couple good clean passe to get both driver into the top half of the show. Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.571, 660ft-3.810/202.03 mph, 1,000ft-4.851.
Dan Pomponio's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.524, 660ft-3.750/201.94 mph, 1,000ft-4.791.
