DINWIDDIE, Va. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northeast Division, event at Virginia Motorsports Park listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Rishi Kanick Runs 5.588/237.96, Now #1
3:27 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 29.33 inches, adjusted altitude 2,655 feet.
Kanick had a smooth launch but the chute came out at 660 feet.
Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.501/249.39, Now #1
Fricke is driving Joe Cantrell's car. She had a clean run that was not particularly quick off the line.
Left Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 5.934/209.75, Now #4
Right Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.683/251.67, Now #3
Stalba had a smooth but easy run down the track. Dietrich's car was a bit slower on the track. There was a pop from one of the cars at the end of the track, but it was not possible to tell which car made the sound.
Left Lane: Frank Schuster Runs 5.595/247.34, Now #4
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.565/255.92, Now #2
Finke moved into the number two spot for now with a clean run. Schuster also had clean run that was not really as quick as it looked.
Left Lane: Wayne Morris Runs 5.526/257.73, Now #2
Right Lane: Dan Page Runs 5.535/258.86, Now #3
Morris and Page took over the second and third spots in the order for now with a pair of nice looking runs.
Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.497/259.21, Now #1
Right Lane: Artie Allen Runs 5.833/227.19, Now #9
Allen's car was sluggish coming off the line so he will not make the field this time. Shields took over the top spot with a strong run.
Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.431/258.22, Now #1
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 10.969/81.54, Now #12
Meyer smoked the tires coming off the line. He pedaled it, then smoked the tires again. Mercier had a strong run down the quarter mile to take over the top spot in the order for now.
Left Lane: Rich McPhillips No Time, Now #14
Right Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.662/251.77, Now #9
McPhillips appeared to have some problems with his car before he did his burnout. He did a burnout but before he staged the car, he shut it down and his crew pushed him out of the way.
