Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 8.208/93.23, Now #18; Best prior run: 10.617/83.56, Was #17
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 4.126/253.52, Now #14; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 19 percent, barometer 27.71 inches, adjusted altitude 4,549 feet, track temperature 120 degrees.

Palmer is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and pedaled one time to go back up in smoke. Buff with a good pass until right before the finish line when the engine let go with a huge fireball. Buff gets into the show and that bumps out Bernstein.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.862/165.56, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.072/87.17, Was #17

Bernstein was up in smoke right off the starting line and pedaled it and got it to hook up, but then right around half track the engine let go with a huge fireball. He does get in the show. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.335, 660ft-3.547/191.13 mph. There is oil on the track, but he had a freebie.

Left Lane: Steve Faria Runs 4.342/198.70, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.418/194.74, Was #15
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.223/208.36, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.979/268.87, Was #13

Faria started to lose traction and clicked it off...Grubnic was on a good pass and then the car goes silent.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.846/320.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.871/297.81, Was #12
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.055/141.89, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.861/323.27, Was #11

McMillen's crew did a great job getting the car turned around after the big engine explosion earlier today. He is up in smoke around 400 feet and clicked it off. Torrence with his quickest pass of the weekend to move into the top half of the show. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.186, 660ft-3.095/281.36 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.882/322.34, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.855/325.37, Was #10
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.848/319.29, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.859/318.69, Was #11

Massey with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder to the number nine spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.173, 660ft-3.089/278.86 mph. Force with another good pass, but will not improve. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.212, 660ft-3.128/279.38 mph.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.876/321.27, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.824/319.14, Was #5
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.846/319.29, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.853/315.64, Was #10

alBalooshi with another good pass, but will not improve and will stay in the number five spot. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.205, 660ft-3.121/278.69 mph. Lucas with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder to the number nine spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.190, 660ft-3.092/280.66 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 4.030/234.21, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.812/290.32, Was #4
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.729/158.07, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.846/326.00, Was #7

Vandergriff is up in smoke early and clicks it off. Langdon starts to haze the tires and clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.310/192.44, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.797/325.85, Was #2
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.881/308.57, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.844/277.83, Was #6

Millican started to haze the tires just past half track and clicked it off. Kalitta with a good clean pass, but will not improve. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.102/273.77 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 5.030/145.48, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.780/320.43, Was #1
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.879/313.88, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.807/325.06, Was #3

Brown smokes the tires and clicks it off...Schumacher with another good looking pass, but will not improve, the fifth quickest pass of the round. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.175, 660ft-3.105/272.72 mph. Brown will hold on to the number one spot for 22nd time in Top Fuel.
