Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steven Chrisman Runs 6.038/0.00, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 10.617/83.56, Now #14; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 27.77 inches, adjusted altitude 4,427 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

Palmer is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off. Chrisman with his first pass of the weekend. He is up in smoke, but drove through it. He gets in the show.


Left Lane: Troy Buff No Time, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Faria Runs 4.418/194.74, Now #13; No Prior Run

Buff is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and clicks it off and comes to a stop on the track. Faria clicks it off early, but gets in the show.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.859/318.69, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.998/251.95, Was #12
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 8.072/87.17, Now #15; No Prior Run

Massey launched hard and keep it hooked up and runs his quickest pass of the weekend to go to the number three spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.187, 660ft-3.101/279.61 mph. Bernstein is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.853/315.64, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.916/308.07, Was #12
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.982/280.31, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.871/297.81, Was #11

Lucas with his quickest pass of the weekend to get into the top half of the show. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.092/278.46 mph. Torrence was on a really good pass until right in the lights when there was a quick flash of flames and the car slowed.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.979/268.87, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 5.003/148.90, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.855/325.37, Was #9

Force starts to smoke the tires and clicks it off. Grubnic with his quickest pass of the weekend to get in the show. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.201, 660ft-3.148/266.53 mph.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.753/106.79, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.861/323.27, Was #11
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.797/325.85, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.825/322.42, Was #5

McMillen started to lose traction and the engine let go with a huge fireball. Millican with the quickest pass of the round and a career quickest and fastest pass to go to the number two spot. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.164, 660ft-3.056/284.87 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.005/285.59, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.846/326.00, Was #7
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.870/322.58, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.824/319.14, Was #5

Vandergriff was dropping cylinders right from the start and he will not improve. alBalooshi with another good pass, but will not improve. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.117/278.69 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 5.030/144.27, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.844/277.83, Was #6
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 4.791/154.85, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.812/290.32, Was #4

Kalitta starts to lose traction and clicks it off early. Langdon started to smoke the tires early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.939/308.50, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.807/325.06, Was #3
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.810/316.97, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.780/320.43, Was #1

Brown with the second quickest pass of the session, he will not improve and holds on to the number one spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.158, 660ft-3.051/282.84 mph. Schumacher with a clean pass, but will not improve.
