Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.871/297.81, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.286/129.69, Was #16
Right Lane: Troy Buff No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.211/131.55, Was #15

Buff was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and the car came to a stop on the track around half track. Torrence launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number four spot. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.162, 660ft-3.081/275.45 mph.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 7.574/89.21, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.505/178.28, Was #14
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.844/277.83, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.984/148.28, Was #15

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 24 percent, barometer 27.68 inches, adjusted altitude 4,351 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Bernstein was up in smoke early and clicked it off. Kalitta launched hard and was on a great pass until just past half track when the car started eating it self up, but he still goes to the number one spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.159, 660ft-3.050/285.53 mph.


Left Lane: Scott Palmer No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.062/278.81, Was #13
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 5.829/116.95, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.336/204.60, Was #14

Palmer couldn't get the car to fire and is pushed off the burnout box. Grubnic starts to lose traction early and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.855/325.37, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.945/319.67, Was #11
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 7.874/73.47, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.998/251.95, Was #12

Massey is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. force launched hard and keep it hooked up to run her career fastest pass to go to the number three spot. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.876 sec., 330ft-2.209, 660ft-3.110/282.66 mph.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.824/319.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.938/318.09, Was #11
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 6.188/112.58, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.916/308.07, Was #10

Lucas is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and clicks it off. alBalooshi launched hard and was straight down the groove into the number one spot. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.170, 660ft-3.072/281.77 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.825/322.42, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.880/314.39, Was #10
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.846/326.00, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.879/322.27, Was #9

This was a great side-by-side drag race by the teammates...Millican with a great pass to go to the number two spot. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.074/282.01 mph. Vandergriff gets into the top half of the show...Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.190, 660ft-3.100/281.77 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.780/320.43, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.873/319.90, Was #10
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.955/146.08, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.861/323.27, Was #7

McMillen was on a good pass until around half track when it went up in smoke. Brown launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.149, 660ft-3.032/284.93 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.812/290.32, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.867/318.99, Was #9
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.807/325.06, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.845/321.88, Was #5

This was a great drag side-by-side drag race to wrap up day one of qualifying...they go to the number two and three spots. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.039/283.13 mph.
Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.158, 660ft-3.061/283.61 mph.
