Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.062/278.81, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 27.68 inches, adjusted altitude 4,484 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

Palmer with his first outing of the year and just past half track it appears to have pushed out a head gasket as there is a quick flash of flames. The is no oil on the track, there are some metal shavings to sweep up.


Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 5.211/131.55, Now #2
Right Lane: Steve Faria No Time, Now #3

Faria has huge fireball as soon as he hits the throttle, and he gets the car stopped quickly and is out of the car. The word from the starting line is the that fuel line came off right at the hit. Buff started to lose traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.861/323.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.945/319.67, Now #2

McMillen with a good clean pass to start the weekend. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.199, 660ft-3.107/279.38 mph. Force was straight down the groove with a clean pass. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.248, 660ft-3.182/274.39 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.879/322.27, Now #2
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 5.286/129.69, Now #6

Vandergriff with a good pass to start the weekend to go to the number two spot. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.200, 660ft-3.124/277.32 mph. torrence is up in smoke by half track and clicked it off.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.336/204.60, Now #5
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 4.505/178.28, Now #6

Bernstein started losing traction and then dropping cylinders before he clicked it off. Grubnic started to haze the tires just past half track and he clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.916/308.07, Now #4
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.880/314.39, Now #3

These two were side-by-side all the way down the track. Millican slides into the number three spot right behind his teammate. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.201, 660ft-3.117/278.46 mph. Lucas was right behind him into the number four spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.195, 660ft-3.132/270.00 mph.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.998/251.95, Now #7
Right Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.938/318.09, Now #5

Massey started to haze the tires around 700 feet and clicked it off. alBalooshi with a good pass to get into the top half of the show. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.228, 660ft-3.171/271.41 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.984/148.28, Now #12
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.867/318.99, Now #2

Kalitta was up in smoke by 330 feet and clicked it off. Langdon with a great pass to go to the number two spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.106/275.45 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.845/321.88, Now #1
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.873/319.90, Now #4

This was a great drag race to wrap up round one. Schumacher launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.166, 660ft-3.088/276.86 mph. Brown with a real nice pass to go to the number four spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.202, 660ft-3.116/279.04 mph.
