Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 14th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Josh Crawford Runs 4.607/221.27, Now #1
Right Lane: Jon Capps Runs 7.288/93.32, Now #2

3:36 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 27.69 inches, adjusted altitude 4,734 feet, track temperature 118 degrees.

Capps lost traction just before half track. Crawford was mixing up the cylinders at the finish line and it looks like he left some oil on the track. This is his first oildown of the season so he won't be charged with a penalty.


Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 4.428/221.60, Now #1
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl No Time, Now #4

3:51 p.m. Diehl's crew was unable to get his engine to start. Head was dropping cylinders at the finish.

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 7.513/96.87, Now #5
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.806/117.97, Now #3

Densham had severe tire shake on the launch and he completely lost traction at abut 300 feet. Arend hazed the tires at about 500 feet and he lifted.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.687/182.30, Now #4
Right Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 4.302/296.57, Now #1

Pedregon was well to the left of the groove at the 660-foot mark and he lifted. A decent looking pass for Lesenko.

Todd Lesenko's incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.445, 660ft-3.477/250.55 mph.


Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.181/302.48, Now #1
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.237/294.95, Now #2

A good looking pass for both drivers.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.925 sec., 330ft-2.382, 660ft-3.379/259.36 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.413, 660ft-3.417/255.87 mph.


Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.203/297.94, Now #2
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 7.065/93.29, Now #9

Beckman struck the tires at about 250 feet. No problems for Force as he moves into the number 2 spot for now.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.915 sec., 330ft-2.363, 660ft-3.384/252.57 mph.


Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 7.744/78.87, Now #13
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 6.519/99.20, Now #9

Both drivers lost traction shortly before the 330-foot mark.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.172/300.26, Now #1
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.157/153.18, Now #9

Pedregon struck the tires at about 300 feet. He pedaled it once and lost traction again at about 500 feet. A good looking pass for Worsham moves him into the top spot for now.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.935 sec., 330ft-2.376, 660ft-3.366/259.36 mph.


Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.200/293.41, Now #3
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.553/201.55, Now #8

Force started skating around at about 600 feet and she had to lift. A smooth pass for Hagan.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.358, 660ft-3.375/252.43 mph.


Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.212/296.70, Now #5
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.325/230.53, Now #8

Gray's engine blew up at about 800 feet and that explosion sent body parts flying. A trouble-free pass for Capps.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.906 sec., 330ft-2.364, 660ft-3.390/251.02 mph.
