LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.710/251.95, Now #3; Best prior run: 57.132/0.00, Was #16
Right Lane: Terry Ruckman Runs 5.697/255.15, Now #2; Best prior run: 12.200/94.24, Was #14

6:00 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 18 percent, barometer 27.88 inches, adjusted altitude 4,017 feet, track temperature 111 degrees.

Dave Germain is on the bump spot at 6.019.

Both cars makes up for their first session woes with a vengeance!

Woznichak had better numbers until mid-track and then Ruckman's Monte Carlo had the power to run better and take the new number two spot. The Woz is number three.

Terry Ruckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.978 sec., 330ft-2.549, 660ft-3.775/202.27 mph, 1,000ft-4.816.

Left Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.681/252.47, Now #2; Best prior run: 13.142/61.11, Was #16
Right Lane: Brian Hough Runs 9.905/100.24, Now #14; Best prior run: 11.448/97.79, Was #14

Bernie Harrington is on the bump spot at 5.883.

Hough drives right into big time tire smoke right off the line.

Gordon makes it look easy and powers on down the track this time and takes over the current number two spot on a clean pass.

Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 5.666/257.24, Now #2; Best prior run: 11.907/100.45, Was #16

Nick Januik is on the bump spot at 5.875.

Wernhart was supposed to be in the right lane, but is a no show. He isn't qualified yet either.

That's better! Barton makes a strong pull and is just three tenths of a second off top speed and scores the current number two spot. Nice run...

Tony Bartone's incremental times: 60ft-0.969 sec., 330ft-2.534, 660ft-3.751/203.52 mph, 1,000ft-4.790.

Left Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 5.676/253.42, Now #3; Best prior run: 11.274/123.60, Was #16
Right Lane: Mike Drake Runs 6.695/186.30, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.249/235.47, Was #13

Jirka Kaplan is on the bump spot at 5.767.

Drake's car is loose off the line and he pedals a couple of times before slowing.

Gasparrelli gets to the finish line under power and moves thirteen spots up the ladder to the number three spot on a strong pass.

Steve Gasparrelli's incremental times: 60ft-0.966 sec., 330ft-2.525, 660ft-3.746/201.97 mph, 1,000ft-4.789.

Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 6.371/159.89, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.892/249.58, Was #12

Jason Rupert is on the bump spot at 5.733. Dave Germain is supposed to be in the right lane.

Payne makes a strong leave and then has a blower flash and bang right before mid-track. The car slows.

6:12 p.m. Time to check the track.

Left Lane: Bernie Harrington No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.883/243.68, Was #11
Right Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 5.674/255.10, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.733/253.42, Was #8

Harrington's engine goes bang in the burnout and the car is pushed back. He won't qualify this session.

Rupert moves off the bump spot with style and moves up to the top half of the field in the new number three position with a clean and straight pass.

Jason Rupert's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.524, 660ft-3.749/202.06 mph, 1,000ft-4.793.

Left Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.832/246.08, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.875/246.03, Was #10
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.700/254.57, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.713/254.57, Was #8

Shane Westerfield is on the bump spot at 5.713 and finds enough power to move up a spot on a nice pass.

Januik makes another career best pass, but stays number ten for now. Consistent!

Left Lane: Jirka Kaplan Runs 6.015/248.43, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.767/250.32, Was #9
Right Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.669/255.53, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.652/257.53, Was #1

Mark Woznichak is on the bump spot at 5.710. Last pair of the session.

Kaplan's Mustang shakes, rattles, and rolls off the line. He slaps the pedal, but won't improve.

Another strong pass for Whiteley and she stays number one going into the final session.
