Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Final Session

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 44th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 5.931/239.06, Now #2; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.550/224.92, Now #13; Best prior run: 9.769/92.61, Was #19

Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.95 inches, adjusted altitude 1,365 feet, track temperature 85 degrees.

Janis with a good pass to get in the show. Mike Janis' incremental times: 60ft-1.034 sec., 330ft-2.924, 660ft-4.365/175.14 mph, 1,000ft-5.560. Martin with a great pass to go to the number two spot. Harold Martin's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.601, 660ft-3.895/192.47 mph, 1,000ft-4.995.


Left Lane: Chip King Runs 6.093/248.80, Now #12; Best prior run: 8.825/113.47, Was #20
Right Lane: Adam Flamholc Runs 6.024/242.84, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.376/135.86, Was #18

King spun the tires hard at the launch, but got it to hook up and he gets in the show. Chip King's incremental times: 60ft-1.063 sec., 330ft-2.819, 660ft-4.110/192.41 mph, 1,000ft-5.189. Flamholc drove through tire shake, but got it to settle down and he gets into the top half of the show. Adam Flamholc's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.674, 660ft-3.989/190.06 mph, 1,000ft-5.096.

Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.773/217.21, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.596/118.11, Was #20
Right Lane: Brad Personett No Time, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.936/222.47, Was #18

Personett rolled the beams and will not get an E.T. and he will not qualify. Knowles with his quickest pass of the weekend, but will not get in the show.

Left Lane: Steve Matusek Runs 12.794/72.10, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.262/223.25, Was #20
Right Lane: Chris Juliano Runs 7.130/144.06, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.251/210.87, Was #14

Matusek with violent tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off. Juliano drove through tire shake and then around half track he had a big nitrous explosion sending the hood scoop flying high into the air.

Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 5.953/237.55, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.861/146.23, Was #18
Right Lane: Clint Satterfield Runs 6.374/236.26, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.123/238.98, Was #13

No help here for Satterfield...Smith launched hard and keep it hooked up to get in the top half of the show. Von Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.639, 660ft-3.932/192.66 mph, 1,000ft-5.027. Mike Janis is on the bump spot at 6.550.

Left Lane: Doug Winters Runs 7.537/128.73, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.731/158.37, Was #17
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.122/179.18, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.006/238.85, Was #8

Winters shook and pedaled it and never got it to hook up...Coughlin was on a pass until just past half track when he clicked it off...

Left Lane: Jimmy Keen Runs 5.994/239.44, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.066/235.23, Was #12
Right Lane: Eric Dillard Runs 5.984/250.27, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.996/249.95, Was #7

Dillard with trouble getting the car to fire he gets it started and up to the line in time. This was a great side-by-side drag race as Dillard improves on his number seven qualifying time. Eric Dillard's incremental times: 60ft-1.039 sec., 330ft-2.737, 660ft-4.012/196.10 mph, 1,000ft-5.084. Keen gets into the top half of the show. Jimmy Keen's incremental times: 60ft-1.031 sec., 330ft-2.669, 660ft-3.957/192.77 mph, 1,000ft-5.057.

Left Lane: Raymond Matos Runs 6.031/232.91, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.063/230.72, Was #12
Right Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 5.921/247.16, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.967/247.70, Was #6

Lang launched hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number two spot. Matos with his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up the ladder one spot. Raymond Matos' incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.631, 660ft-3.941/188.86 mph, 1,000ft-5.068.

Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 5.844/246.89, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.059/236.67, Was #12
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 5.961/240.04, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.945/243.02, Was #5

Castellana launches hard and was straight down the groove to go to the number one spot. Mike Castellana's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.605, 660ft-3.863/197.36 mph, 1,000ft-4.935. Smith with another good pass, but will not improve. Rickie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.636, 660ft-3.927/192.28 mph, 1,000ft-5.028.

Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 5.871/248.57, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.852/248.98, Was #2
Right Lane: Pete Farber Runs 5.886/247.84, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.936/246.17, Was #5

No help here for Rowe, but another good pass. Danny Rowe's incremental times: 60ft-0.978 sec., 330ft-2.613, 660ft-3.890/195.76 mph, 1,000ft-4.966. Farber launched hard and makes a great looking pass to go to the number three spot. Pete Farber's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.617, 660ft-3.894/194.66 mph, 1,000ft-4.978. Castellana holds on to the number one qualifying spot and this is the fifth time he has qualified No. 1.
