By Michael L. Jex

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 44th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.691/195.08, Now #12; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.204/302.35, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.094/86.19, Was #15

4:35 p.m. The track temp is now the warmest we've seen all day - The middle of the track proved tricky for Top Fuel earlier - getting through the transition may be key in this session.

Lee's run looked quicker than that - he was going 233.mph at the halfway point, then lifted at the top end of the track. Nice lap for Tasca to move into the top 12.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.117/308.21, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.892/76.70, Was #18
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.826/165.78, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.054/84.68, Was #16

Hight got to Gainesville at 1 O'clock this morning, after having to wait at the airport in LA...

Hight's Mustang was on a string right down the middle of the groove. Courtney carded a ..908 60-foot time, then had to lift after losing traction in the middle of her run. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.912 sec., 330ft-2.342, 660ft-3.325/263.72 mph.

Right Lane: John Force Runs 6.913/97.91, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.577/101.51, Was #16

Force smoked the tires once again - Gray looked very impressive, the motor sounded very strong all the way to the stripe. Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.324, 660ft-3.289/266.79 mph.
