Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 44th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.486/260.01, Now #1
Right Lane: Matthew Cummings Runs 6.178/204.88, Now #2

Cummings starts to shake right off the starting line and pedals it a couple times to get a time on the board. Perry with his first pass of the season and make a nice clean one. Ken Perry's incremental times: 60ft-0.953 sec., 330ft-2.426, 660ft-3.613/209.10 mph, 1,000ft-4.627.

Left Lane: Al Moeser Runs 11.516/73.90, Now #4
Right Lane: Mike Burns Runs 5.501/261.42, Now #2

Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 30.07 inches, adjusted altitude 908 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Moser shakes right at the hit and clicks it off. burns is straight down the groove. Mike Burns' incremental times: 60ft-0.958 sec., 330ft-2.445, 660ft-3.628/209.01 mph, 1,000ft-4.642.


Left Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 5.670/240.81, Now #3
Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.679/249.16, Now #4

Hirata was out of the groove and stayed with it reeling it back in...Dietrich drove through some tire shake.

Left Lane: Paul Fishburn Runs 5.381/261.57, Now #1
Right Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.460/261.37, Now #2

A good side-by-side drag race as these two go to the top of the list. Paul Fishburn's incremental times: 60ft-0.927 sec., 330ft-2.376, 660ft-3.527/214.08 mph, 1,000ft-4.526.
Robin Samsel's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.499, 660ft-3.639/218.62 mph, 1,000ft-4.613.

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 13.645/73.42, Now #10
Right Lane: Frank Schuster Runs 5.541/247.75, Now #5

Stalba is up in smoke as soon as she hits the throttle. Schuster with a nice pass right out of the box. Frank Schuster's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.388, 660ft-3.594/202.33 mph, 1,000ft-4.641.

Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.286/263.98, Now #1
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 24.341/22.77, Now #12

Reichert with his first pass of the season and he picks right up from where he left off last year. This was a great pass. Bill Reichert's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.403, 660ft-3.506/225.94 mph, 1,000ft-4.454. Finke was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.

Left Lane: Dan Page Runs 10.789/69.72, Now #11
Right Lane: Bill Evans Runs 6.919/132.22, Now #10

Page rattled the tires early and clicked it off. Evans clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Artie Allen Runs 5.345/263.00, Now #3
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.316/263.56, Now #2

this was a good side-by-side drag race as they are both hitting on all eight all the way down the track. They go to two and three...Artie Allen's incremental times: 60ft-0.931 sec., 330ft-2.413, 660ft-3.543/221.34 mph, 1,000ft-4.506.
Dan Mercier's incremental times: 60ft-0.931 sec., 330ft-2.402, 660ft-3.522/223.06 mph, 1,000ft-4.478.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 9.504/86.61, Now #14
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 9.451/135.47, Now #13

Meyer started to shake before he was up in smoke and Shields was up in smoke early also...

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.321/260.61, Now #3
Right Lane: Richard Bourke Runs 5.643/256.45, Now #10

McPhillips launched hard and was straight down the groove with a real nice pass. Rich McPhillips' incremental times: 60ft-0.920 sec., 330ft-2.392, 660ft-3.512/222.99 mph, 1,000ft-4.474. Bourke with a clean pass and goes to the number ten spot. Reichert holds on the number one spot with a5.286 and Duane Shields is on the bump spot at 9.504.
