Nostalgia Funny Car Time Trial Notes, Session #1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Notes from round 1 time trials in Nostalgia Funny Car at the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series 2013, 55th Annual March Meet listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Not on File Runs 7.323/130.22, Now #2
Right Lane: Bob Godfrey Runs 6.807/131.18, Now #1

2:23 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 29 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 2,050 feet, track temperature 97 degrees.

NOTE: The Tech. Cards haven't been coming up to the tower, so many names are either guesses or information from prior races. This will be corrected by tomorrow's qualifying.

I'm told that these were planned half track passes.


Left Lane: Dan Horan Jr Runs 5.786/249.72, Now #1
Right Lane: Rian Konno Runs 9.921/72.35, Now #4

These two cars are correct.

Lots of clutch dust from under Horan's Mustang. He clicks it early on a strong pass.

Konno's Mustang is a little lazy off the line, and is all done before the 330 lights.

Dan Horan Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.008 sec., 330ft-2.621, 660ft-3.852/200.86 mph, 1,000ft-4.900.

Left Lane: Dennis Taylor Runs 7.772/104.77, Now #4
Right Lane: Not on File Runs 12.591/64.56, Now #6

The right lane car says Tocco and Garten's War Horse and Dennis Taylor is in the left lane.

The War Horse leaves hard and then moves hard towards the wall. He has to lift.

Taylor's Charger makes a strong leave and then has smoke from the right engine bank before half track.

Left Lane: Not on File Runs 6.705/150.16, Now #2
Right Lane: Not on File Runs 8.339/105.90, Now #6

Mr Explosive in the left lane and the Fighting Irish in the right.

Early shut off both both cars.

Mr. Explosive has a strong leave and runs well to about thew 1000 foot lights and lifts.

The Fighting Irish's car is slow off the line, starts to move out of the groove and lifts.

Left Lane: Dennis La Charite Runs 5.919/243.59, Now #2
Right Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 7.097/125.73, Now #5

Back in Black in the left lane and Worsham racing in the right.

They leave close together and run well until near the 1000 foot lights, where Worsham starts to slow.

Back in Black gets a full pass into the second best pass of the day.

Dennis La Charite's incremental times: 60ft-1.006 sec., 330ft-2.621, 660ft-3.911/192.71 mph, 1,000ft-4.999.
Kirk Kuhns' incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.563, 660ft-3.908/162.14 mph, 1,000ft-5.448.

Left Lane: Chad Head Runs 5.829/242.19, Now #2
Right Lane: Tim Boychuk Runs 5.913/219.94, Now #3

Chad Head in the left lane and the Castrol Firebird in the right.

The Castrol car gets a huge starting line advantage, but both cars make straight and clean passes right on down the track. Nice!

Chad Head's incremental times: 60ft-1.010 sec., 330ft-2.635, 660ft-3.873/200.02 mph, 1,000ft-4.928.
Tim Boychuk's incremental times: 60ft-1.013 sec., 330ft-2.621, 660ft-3.872/196.79 mph, 1,000ft-4.952.

Left Lane: Wayne Mellinger No Time, Now #15
Right Lane: Josh Crawford Runs 16.660/58.14, Now #14

Mellinger's car must not of had a throttle stop, as the engine goes to high C in the burnout. The blower goes bang and the burst panel goes flying into the air. He pulls the car over to the wall and stops on the track.

The Blue Max hadn't started the burn out yet and is given the shutoff signal. The crew backs off the motor and then restarts it later, when the track is clear.

The car lugs off the line and quickly has the engine go silent.

Left Lane: Not on File Runs 6.571/166.09, Now #6
Right Lane: Not on File Runs 6.261/167.03, Now #5

Stone, Woods, and Cook Mustang in the left lane and CP Carrillo Mustang in the right.

The CP Carrillo gets a strong start and then shuts off early.

The SW&C cars sits in the lights for a while before leaving. He shuts off early too.

Left Lane: Tom Padilla Runs 6.773/156.44, Now #8
Right Lane: Runs 13.927/56.00, Now #16

The Dragon in the left lane and Bays and Rupert in the right.

Strong leave for B&R and then the tires start to shake and he lifts.

Half pass for the Dragon
