Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals presented by Super Start Batteries listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 13.736/61.76, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.112/160.75, Was #19

Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 18 percent, barometer 28.94 inches, adjusted altitude 2,684 feet, track temperature 109 degrees.

Morgan shook hard and made a quick move toward the centerline and he clicked it off. He will not get in the show.


Left Lane: Chris McGaha Runs 12.018/74.36, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.612/209.04, Was #16
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.728/208.55, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.019/161.13, Was #18

McGaha was shook and made move toward the centerline similar to Morgan's pass and he clicked it off. Johnson was spinning the tires and he will not get in the show.

Left Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.733/207.62, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.611/209.01, Was #15
Right Lane: Mark Wolfe Runs 6.717/206.76, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.653/206.70, Was #17

Wolfe with the quickest pass of the session so far, but not quick enough to get in the show. Kramer will start tomorrow from the number 15 spot...

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.654/208.52, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.602/210.08, Was #14
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.608/209.36, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.600/209.95, Was #12

Gray with a nice pass as we are racing in the hottest conditions of the weekend. Shane Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.254/166.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.531. The Safety Safari was taking a close look at Johnson's car as he backs up from the burnout...he has the second quickest pass of the round. Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.005 sec., 330ft-2.800, 660ft-4.292/165.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.574. Apparently Johnson was leaking oil as the Safety Safari is rolling.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.594/210.93, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.601/211.06, Was #13
Right Lane: Steve Kent Runs 6.608/208.20, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.594/208.97, Was #10

Johnson with a little wiggle right on the launch, but still runs his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder. He ties Kent, but will get the higher position based on the faster speed. Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.010 sec., 330ft-2.785, 660ft-4.259/167.49 mph, 1,000ft-5.526.
Kent with another good pass. Steve Kent's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.763, 660ft-4.245/166.17 mph, 1,000ft-5.527.

Left Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.621/210.37, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.599/210.60, Was #12
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.601/208.81, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.582/210.11, Was #9

Matt Hartford's incremental times: 60ft-1.008 sec., 330ft-2.793, 660ft-4.274/166.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.549.
Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.758, 660ft-4.243/166.01 mph, 1,000ft-5.522.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.582/211.36, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.580/210.64, Was #8
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.582/209.98, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.572/210.97, Was #6

These two are side-by-side all the way down the quarter-mile and they tie. The two quickest passes of the session. Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.772, 660ft-4.245/167.38 mph, 1,000ft-5.514.
Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.997 sec., 330ft-2.770, 660ft-4.243/167.34 mph, 1,000ft-5.512.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.611/209.72, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.577/210.31, Was #7
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.573/211.86, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.541/212.43, Was #4

Lines car has a lot of duct tape on the nose of the car, word is the car bumped into the golf cart on the way to the lanes and cracked the body. Line was straight down the groove with the quickest pass of the round, he will not improve. Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.243/168.01 mph, 1,000ft-5.508.
Brogdon with another good pass. Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.783, 660ft-4.262/166.44 mph, 1,000ft-5.537.

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.569/210.34, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.551/211.46, Was #5
Right Lane: Erica Enders-Stevens Runs 6.564/210.80, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.539/212.23, Was #3

This was a great drag race in the heat of the day. The two quickest passes of the round, but neither driver will improve. Vincent Nobile's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.759, 660ft-4.231/167.30 mph, 1,000ft-5.499.
Erica Enders-Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.755, 660ft-4.225/167.74 mph, 1,000ft-5.495.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.565/212.29, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.538/211.49, Was #2
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.543/212.06, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.528/212.39, Was #1

This was a great way to wrap up Pro Stock qualifying...Edwards runs the quickest pass of the round and holds on the number one spot. Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.754, 660ft-4.219/168.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.481. Gaines after running low E.t. on Thursday struggled the next pass has found his Thursday tune-up again as he runs the third quickest pass of the round and will start tomorrow from the number two spot. V. Gaines' incremental times: 60ft-1.009 sec., 330ft-2.777, 660ft-4.243/168.14 mph, 1,000ft-5.504.
