POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals presented by Super Start Batteries listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mike Drake Runs 12.906/70.24, Now #14; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 22 percent, barometer 29.05 inches, adjusted altitude 2,367 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

Drake shook right at the hit and made a quick move toward the centerline before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: John Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.647/257.83, Now #4; Best prior run: 13.735/64.87, Was #15
Right Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 5.718/237.05, Now #5; No Prior Run

Lambardo Jr shook right at the hit, but was able to drive through it and made a good pass to move into the top half of the field. John Lombardo Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.952 sec., 330ft-2.525, 660ft-3.744/204.94 mph, 1,000ft-4.775.
Rupert was on a good pass until right in the lights when there was a big pop...he still moves into the top half of the show. Jason Rupert's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.539, 660ft-3.765/202.33 mph, 1,000ft-4.812.

Left Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.685/256.84, Now #5; Best prior run: 11.610/74.10, Was #15
Right Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 9.724/121.80, Now #14; No Prior Run

Ray was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and clicked it off. Gordon shook right at the hit and had a quick pedal job and got it to hook up and he move into the top half of the show. Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.545, 660ft-3.773/202.85 mph, 1,000ft-4.809.

Left Lane: Leif Andreasson Runs 5.626/255.73, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.920/98.40, Was #13
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.990/247.84, Now #11; Best prior run: 10.826/108.40, Was #16

Andreasson launched hard and was straight down the groove with a great pass. He goes to the number two spot, and is just a few ticks off his career best pass. Leif Andreasson's incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.488, 660ft-3.708/203.40 mph, 1,000ft-4.746. Payne had to pedal it about 300 feet out,, but improves and gets off the bump spot. Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.969 sec., 330ft-2.688, 660ft-3.996/193.60 mph, 1,000ft-5.081.

Left Lane: Bernie Harrington Runs 5.763/232.51, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.387/162.04, Was #13
Right Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.584/258.91, Now #1; Best prior run: 10.035/93.88, Was #16

Harrington appeared to be on a good pass until right before the finish line when it used up an engine. The word is there is oil on the track. Bernie Harrington's incremental times: 60ft-0.956 sec., 330ft-2.524, 660ft-3.768/198.58 mph, 1,000ft-4.836. Woznichak launched hard and was straight down the groove to the number one spot. woznichak with his career quickest and fastest pass. Mark Woznichak's incremental times: 60ft-0.952 sec., 330ft-2.485, 660ft-3.686/206.42 mph, 1,000ft-4.714.

Left Lane: Steve Gasparrelli Runs 9.008/105.19, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.788/252.57, Was #10
Right Lane: Hannes Wernhart No Time, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.899/196.73, Was #15

Wernhart couldn't get the car to start and is pushed off the starting line. Gaparrelli is up in smoke right at the hit and then pedals it.

Left Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 5.636/261.72, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.638/259.46, Was #5
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.709/255.15, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.205/251.44, Was #14

Bartone just a couple ticks quicker than yesterday, but moves up the ladder one spot. Tony Bartone's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.536, 660ft-3.754/205.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.776. Westerfield started to shake and pedaled it andgets into the top half of the show. Shane Westerfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.963 sec., 330ft-2.558, 660ft-3.795/201.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.832.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 10.745/76.40, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.637/253.42, Was #5
Right Lane: Bret Williamson Runs 5.982/248.61, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.836/246.26, Was #13

Bellemeur shakes right at the hit and clicks it off...Williamson slows from yesterday.

Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.614/259.36, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.625/258.96, Was #2
Right Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.582/259.96, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.804/249.90, Was #12

Whiteley launched hard and was straight down the grooove with a great looking pass. Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.959 sec., 330ft-2.494, 660ft-3.694/206.80 mph, 1,000ft-4.716. She goes to the number one spot. Hough made a quick move toward the centerline, but he reeled it back into the groove. He improved on his time from yesterday, but still gets bumped back one spot. Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.959 sec., 330ft-2.494, 660ft-3.694/206.80 mph, 1,000ft-4.716.
