Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 48th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.100/186.85, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.255/170.90, Was #24

2:57 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 28.88 inches, adjusted altitude 1,893 feet, track temperature 82 degrees.

GT Tonglet is on the bump spot at 7.003.

Last change of the year to qualify and Tonglet misses the mark.

Wesley Wells' incremental times: 60ft-1.075 sec., 330ft-2.923, 660ft-4.510/154.10 mph, 1,000ft-5.903.


Left Lane: Rhett Lougheed Runs 7.197/186.56, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.229/176.51, Was #24
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.965/191.00, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.462/191.48, Was #25

Nice pass into the sixes and he jumps up from #25 to #13 for now.

Lougheed continues to improve and ends up outside the field.

Rhett Lougheed's incremental times: 60ft-1.168 sec., 330ft-3.044, 660ft-4.609/154.94 mph, 1,000ft-5.998.

Left Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 8.053/118.32, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.114/185.36, Was #21
Right Lane: Freddie Camarena No Time, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.158/188.67, Was #24

Well that got weird. Both bikes leave hard and Camarena has the bike drift over towards the center line and nails the 660 reflector.

Guidera was slowing in the left lane and they went through the lights close together.

Left Lane: Kieth Burley Runs 7.143/177.79, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.089/183.72, Was #19
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 9.968/82.18, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.155/183.69, Was #23

Harris is a little slow off the line and sits up before half track. Burley gets a full pass, but slows from his best.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 6.985/188.94, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.026/188.81, Was #18
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 6.992/191.51, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.003/191.87, Was #17

Two good passes and Tonglet is in the field when he crosses the finish line, but Berry pushes him out when he crosses the line.

Mike Berry's incremental times: 60ft-1.066 sec., 330ft-2.884, 660ft-4.436/157.36 mph, 1,000ft-5.803.
GT Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.091 sec., 330ft-2.913, 660ft-4.464/157.89 mph, 1,000ft-5.823.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 6.931/190.30, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.952/188.44, Was #12
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 6.996/187.96, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.001/186.36, Was #18

James Surber is on the bump spot at 6.991.

Both bikes are strong going down the track and Ray picks up a little to stay #12.

No joy for Sullivan, as she improves, but not enough to qualify.

Michael Ray's incremental times: 60ft-1.062 sec., 330ft-2.865, 660ft-4.402/158.80 mph, 1,000ft-5.758.
Katie Sullivan's incremental times: 60ft-1.076 sec., 330ft-2.912, 660ft-4.462/157.91 mph, 1,000ft-5.822.

Left Lane: John Hall Runs 6.954/189.02, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.931/190.78, Was #11
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 6.931/193.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.971/194.21, Was #14

Underdahl makes the best of the conditions and pushes Hall back a position on a strong pass up to #14.

John Hall's incremental times: 60ft-1.104 sec., 330ft-2.895, 660ft-4.426/159.61 mph, 1,000ft-5.777.
Jim Underdahl's incremental times: 60ft-1.097 sec., 330ft-2.897, 660ft-4.432/159.32 mph, 1,000ft-5.777.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.907/192.41, Was #10
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.931/191.40, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.895/192.74, Was #9

Stoffer's bike won't start. The crew pulls the body off, fiddles with it, and it still won't start.

Johnson makes a clean pass and stays #9.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.920/193.71, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.892/194.04, Was #8
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 8.558/113.38, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.891/193.52, Was #7

Arana bike continues to struggle. Ellis makes a strong pass, but has some smoke from the engine in the lights and doesn't improve.

Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.090 sec., 330ft-2.892, 660ft-4.423/159.85 mph, 1,000ft-5.765.

Left Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.894/192.52, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.883/193.90, Was #6
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.884/194.44, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.864/194.27, Was #3

Two more good looking passes, but no improvements.

LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.050 sec., 330ft-2.849, 660ft-4.383/158.97 mph, 1,000ft-5.732.
Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.071 sec., 330ft-2.869, 660ft-4.396/160.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.734.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.811/196.59, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.874/196.19, Was #5
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.859/192.19, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.862/191.76, Was #2

Krawiec finalizes his march to the Championship with a tremendous pass into the new top spot. This is his third Pro Stock Bike Championship.

Pollacheck continues to improve, but will stay #3.

Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.056 sec., 330ft-2.842, 660ft-4.355/161.88 mph, 1,000ft-5.676.
Scotty Pollacheck's incremental times: 60ft-1.045 sec., 330ft-2.826, 660ft-4.353/159.89 mph, 1,000ft-5.697.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.925/192.91, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.872/192.41, Was #5
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.809/196.53, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.836/195.62, Was #2

Hines makes his own statement by taking back the top spot to put the H-D's #1 and #2.

Arana makes a clean and straight pass, but doesn't improve.

Hector Arana Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.054 sec., 330ft-2.864, 660ft-4.408/158.15 mph, 1,000ft-5.763.
Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.049 sec., 330ft-2.835, 660ft-4.347/161.71 mph, 1,000ft-5.671.
