Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual Big O Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 14.506/40.65, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.108/308.28, Was #7
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 10.780/86.03, Now #13; No Prior Run

12:43 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 19 percent, barometer 27.92 inches, adjusted altitude 3,770 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

Head and Haddock hit the throttle and go up in smoke immediately. Head is already in the field and stays in the seventh spot for now. Haddock will be in the 13th spot for now.

Left Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 12.876/67.23, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.190/300.60, Now #13; No Prior Run

Diehl goes up in smoke at soon as he hits the throttle. Lee goes right down the groove with his quickest attempt of the weekend to get in the 13th spot for now.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. No Time, Now #21; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Josh Crawford Runs 4.377/282.48, Now #14; No Prior Run

Johnson has a broken throttle cable after the burnout and shuts down the engine. He will have one more chance this afternoon.

Crawford had a cylinder or two out at the hit, made a move to the right but stayed on the throttle all the way through the run. He gets in the show in the 14th spot for now.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.091/307.09, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.128/307.37, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.098/308.78, Was #5

Hagan makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves all the way to the third spot for now. Capps makes a clean run but doesn't improve. He drops a spot to sixth as Hagan goes around him in the order.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.091/309.06, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.093/306.88, Was #5
Right Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 5.802/122.50, Now #16; No Prior Run

Beckman makes a good pass here and moves up a couple of spots to third. Lesenko has problems late in the run but still makes his quickest pass of the weekend and gets in on the bump for now.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.524/190.81, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.070/313.73, Was #1
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.289/303.98, Now #15; No Prior Run

Neff was on a decent run but was out of power about 800 feet out. Force was under power all the way through the run but is still off the pace. He gets in the 15th spot for now.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.096/304.67, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.084/308.21, Was #2
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 5.062/151.82, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.136/305.15, Was #13

tasca gets about 400 feet out, strikes the tires and has to give up on the run. Pedregon goes right down the groove but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.164/296.76, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.121/311.70, Now #11; No Prior Run

De Joria was on a good run but one of the chute pack rips off the body about 900 feet out. Hight made his quickest pass of the weekend to get in the show in the 11th spot.

Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.091/313.51, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.093/312.71, Was #5
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.169/145.81, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.136/308.99, Was #13

Force runs the third 4.091 of the round and also the fastest so she receive the bonus points ahead of Beckman and Hagan. Arend gets about 400 feet out and goes up in smoke.

Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.089/313.22, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.123/302.41, Was #12

Jon Capps was scheduled to run this pair but decided to sit it out and save parts. Gray makes an impressive run, going right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far and move up to the third spot.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 7.009/88.74, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.108/299.20, Was #10
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.900/163.61, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.099/305.70, Was #8

Wilkerson gets about 400 feet out and goes up in smoke. Pedregon gets about 500 feet out, strikes the tires and gives up on the run.
