Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual Big O Tires NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Kevin Wayman No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.568/257.38, Now #1

11:48 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 28.15 inches, adjusted altitude 2,986 feet, track temperature 72 degrees.

Wayman hit the throttle, the engine popped and the car came to a stop before the finish line. Grisel goes right down the groove with a clean pass.


Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.503/266.16, Now #2
Right Lane: William Litton Runs 5.467/250.55, Now #1

Litton goes right down the groove with a career best to take the early pole. Olivarez makes a decent pass but was trailing Litton all the way through the run

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.503/245.18, Now #3
Right Lane: Todd Odom No Time, Now #6

Odom left before the tree was activated and did not get a time. Fricke goes right down the groove with a clean run and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Don St. Arnaud Runs 13.060/78.77, Now #5
Right Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 15.688/31.67, Now #6

Ahten gets about 100 feet out, strikes the tires and backs off the throttle. St. Arnaud gets a little further and loses traction.

Left Lane: Alan Bradshaw Runs 5.361/259.36, Now #1

Bradshaw makes an impressive run, his quickest this season, and he takes the pole for now.

Left Lane: Greg Hunter Runs 5.458/262.74, Now #2
Right Lane: Ray Martin Runs 11.483/51.42, Now #7

Martin gets about 300 feet out and loses the blower belt. Hunter makes a decent pass and gets in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.297/262.18, Now #1
Right Lane: Megan McKernan No Time, Now #13

Bateman goes right down the groove with an impressive pass and moves into the top spot for now. McKernan has problems and does not make a pass.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.475/260.41, Now #5
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.510/258.76, Now #8

Finke makes a clean straight pass and moves into the fifth spot for now. Severance moved around a little but still made a decent run.

Left Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 5.534/262.13, Now #10
Right Lane: Sidnei Frigo Runs 5.351/263.92, Now #2

Frigo goes right down the groove and gets in the second spot for now. Copeland makes a clean pass but is a little off the pace.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.508/247.25, Now #10
Right Lane: Mark Taliaferro Runs 5.442/269.51, Now #4

Meyer was moving around early in the run but makes a decent pass to get in the tenth spot for now. Taliaferro goes right down the groove and gets in the show in the fourth spot for now.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.466/255.00, Now #6
Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 21.715/27.40, Now #18

Whiteley hits the throttle, moves about 10 feet and backs off the throttle, not sure why. Shields makes a clean pass and ges in the sixth spot to end this session.
