By Larry Sullivan

ENNIS, Texas - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Extreme at the American Drag Racing League, ADRL World Finals VIII presented by CarSafe:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
4607 Todd Martin 217 Tim Tindle
E1 0.039 3.723 203.95 ****WINNER**** 0.028 3.694 205.07
 Qualified: #9 3.666 206.48 #8 3.650 205.72
5:15 p.m. This is the second-quickest field ever for Pro Extreme.

Fuel vapor was spraying over the windshield of Tindle's car as he crossed the finish line, but the apparent fuel system leak didn't slow him down. Tim Tindle's MOV: 0.0408 seconds (approximately 12 feet). Martin kept him honest, but Tindle was better at both ends of the track.

360 Duane Rister 7 Alex Hossler
E1 0.048 4.714 107.66 ****WINNER**** 0.044 3.666 203.77
 Qualified: #10 3.700 204.35 #7 3.640 208.01
Rister's car was skating toward the centerline and he finally shut it off. Hossler made another strong, 3.6x-second run (that's five in a row so far this weekend).

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed
1130 John Stanley 3 Mick Snyder
E1 -0.033 4.225 126.99 ****WINNER**** 0.075 3.682 206.16
 Qualified: #11 3.702 207.24 #6 3.627 210.18
Snyder and Jason Scruggs are just 20 points apart in the championship chase, which means that Scruggs will have to go a round further or set a record to take the title away from Snyder.

Stanley left too soon and Snyder advances, making a good (but not spectacular) run.

6 Jason Scruggs 48 Brandon Snider
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.056 3.694 206.35 0.039 3.985 148.30
 Qualified: #5 3.613 210.18 #12 3.702 202.52
Then it was Scruggs' turn and he knew he had to win to stay in contention.

This was a close race until Snider's burst panel let go before half track. In fact, Scruggs was chasing Snider up to that point.

Jason Scruggs' incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.014), 330 ft(-0.007). MOV: 0.2746 seconds (approximately 60 feet).

2377 Von Smith 2695 Bubba Stanton
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.033 3.711 204.57 0.029 4.026 142.57
 Qualified: #13 3.704 203.65 #4 3.605 210.37
Smith only got down the track once during qualifying. It was close at the start, but Stanton was ahead and pulling away when something went awry and Stanton's car nosed over.

Von Smith's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.008), 330 ft(-0.012). MOV: 0.3111 seconds (approximately 65 feet). Smith will not have lane choice when he faces Scruggs in round two.

1101 Quain Stott 463 Brandon Pesz
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.048 3.852 203.00 0.122 4.982 106.85
 Qualified: #14 3.711 204.94 #3 3.587 211.43
Stott pulls off another upset, with a huge holeshot at the green, then a faltering run by Pesz, with lots of raw fuel from the pipes just past half track.

Stott will not have lane choice when he faces Snyder in round two.

 1382 Tommy D'Aprile 57 Art McMahan
E1 ****WINNER**** 0.081 3.655 206.16 0.042 3.768 201.37
 Qualified: #2 3.580 209.85 #15 3.711 203.16
D'Aprile needs a 3.615 or better to back up his 3.580 as a record. He gave it a shot, making the quickest run of the round, but will have to settle for lane choice against Hossler and possibly better conditions for running a record or backup.

38 Neal Wantye 4 Frankie Taylor
E1 0.061 3.814 199.91 ****WINNER**** 0.069 3.682 207.56
 Qualified: #16 3.748 208.14 #1 3.577 212.19
Taylor needed 3.612 or better to back up his 3.577 as a record, but it appears he went for a safer tuneup here in the heat. Wantye had a small holeshot advantage, but Taylor led before they went 60 feet and pulled away for the win. He will have lane choice against Tindle in round two.
