Extreme Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Extreme Pro Stock at the American Drag Racing League, ADRL World Finals VIII presented by CarSafe listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 4.086/177.95, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.276/83.21, Was #17
Right Lane: Brad Waddle Runs 4.132/175.25, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.184/96.70, Was #14

3:59 p.m. Rick Cowger is on the bump spot at 6.608.

This time, Montecalvo got a clean launch and a reasonable straight run to bump into the top half of the field. Waddle also improved, moved up one spot.

Now Brian Gahm is on the bump spot at 5.635.

Left Lane: Rick Cowger No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.608/71.48, Was #17
Right Lane: Kevin Bealko Runs 4.111/175.71, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.164/171.36, Was #14

Cowger made the burnout, then was pushed back off the track.

Bealko's car kept drifting right, toward the wall, and he yanked it back into the groove about 300 feet out, never lifted.

Left Lane: Matt Bertsch Runs 4.126/176.07, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.203/172.98, Was #15
Right Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 4.159/173.87, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.114/176.84, Was #13

O'Brien's car also drove to the right and he had to make a major course adjustment to get back to the groove. Bertsch took a much straighter path, stepped up one spot.

Left Lane: Richard Penland Runs 4.131/174.66, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.100/176.30, Was #11
Right Lane: Scott Hintz Runs 4.091/176.72, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.081/177.14, Was #5

Both made good runs, both slowed down a bit in the heat of the day.

Left Lane: Dean Goforth Runs 4.079/176.56, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.095/175.59, Was #9

Nice run for the senior member of the Goforth team.

Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 6.546/96.03, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.074/178.14, Was #4

Morton's car drove to the right and he had to lift.

Left Lane: Todd Hoerner Runs 4.109/177.44, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.060/178.64, Was #3
Right Lane: Pete Berner Runs 4.071/177.09, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.051/177.09, Was #2

The Pro Stock teams got together and are running a Battle for the Belt" race for the top eight in points. We'll report that separately.

Both drivers were not able to match their pace in the first session today.

Left Lane: John Pluchino Runs 10.699/39.62, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.089/177.04, Was #8
Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 4.115/176.90, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.635/94.15, Was #16

Pluchino shook and turned sideways on the launch, forcing him to lift. Gahm amde a clean run to get off the bump spot.

Left Lane: David Schorr Runs 4.221/170.19, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.091/175.73, Was #9
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Jr Runs 4.091/176.42, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.096/176.84, Was #10

Schorr had a good launch, but the car did n ot want to go straight. Stevens improved slightly, moved up one spot.

Left Lane: John Deflorian Jr. Runs 4.046/178.64, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.040/179.95, Was #1
Right Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 4.071/177.58, Now #4; No Prior Run

DeFlorian backed up his earlier 179.95 as a speed record - if he keeps it, it's worth 50 points in his championship quest. Goforth made a good run, moved well into the field - making his quest for the championship look a little better as well.
