Hefler Scores Again



ENNIS, Texas - The team from North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas, ran away with the Team Championship for the NHRA South Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals at Texas Motorplex while Jeff Hefler won in the No Electronics class and will advance to the Summit Racing Series National Championship for the third time.

North Star Dragway racked up 70 points to take the Team Championship followed by Tulsa Raceway Park and Royal Purple Raceway tied for second at 55.

Hefler scored his fourth NHRA South Central Division Summit Racing Championship winning back in 2006 and then in two classes in 2010 in which he went on to win the National Championship in Sportsman. The Ft. Worth, Texas, racer beat Jesse Cervantes, Ennis, Texas, on a double breakout and a big starting line advantage. Hefler was .008 on the tree, clocking in at 6.478 (6.48 dial) at 101.03 mph in his '76 Vega.

Brad Bolton, Paris, Texas, took home the trophy in Super Pro while Jay Bunch, Piedmont, Okla., won in Pro with his '67 Nova. Bolton drove his '98 dragster to a lap of 4.856 at 139.80 mph in beating Rusty Baxter, Beckville, Texas, and his '02 dragster at 145.22 mph. Bunch used his hole-shot to take the early lead and hold on for the win over Travis Salter, Baytown, Texas, with a 6.544 second pass to Salter's 6.511 at 122.43. The pair returned for a final run off and a trip to Pomona, Calif., for the national championship with Bolton taking the win.

Adam White and Curtis Spracklin rounded out the weekend's winners as White won in the No-Electronics Street class and Spracklin in the 2-wheeled Motorcycle class. White powered his '84 Chevelle to a lap of 7.622 seconds at 84 mph to defeat Robert Schoemer, Abilene, Texas, in his '69 LaMans who broke out at 8.160 on the 8.17 dial. The Omaha, Neb., resident Spracklin outran Chad Isley in a double breakout final round at 5.409, 121.35 mph.

Hefler, Bolton, White and Spracklin will all advance to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals where the will face off with the winner's from the six other NHRA divisions for a purse of more than $100,000.
