Saturday's round two of the NOS Energy Mayhem @ the MAX Series presented by Kooks Custom Headers, JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Parts produced six new winners and one repeat winner at zMAX Dragway. The seven classes to compete included Super Pro, Pro Street, Top Eliminator, Sportsman, Motorcycle and two divisions of Junior Dragster.

Second-generation drag racer Doug Foley Jr., of Statesville, N.C., picked up the victory in the Super Pro class with an elapsed time of 8.62 seconds at 150.98 mph in his dragster. Paul Weeks, of Concord, won the Pro Street class with a run of 11.11 seconds at 116.93 mph in his 1979 Chevrolet Camaro. Weeks won the Sportsman class in round one. Scottie Keller, of Mooresville, N.C., was once again the fastest on two wheels, grabbing his second consecutive victory on his 1990 Kawasaki motorcycle with a run of 9.41 seconds at 140.66 mph.

In eighth-mile competition, Clay Hair, of Mount Pleasant, N.C., captured top honors in the Top Eliminator class with an elapsed time of 6.16 seconds at 111.94 mph in his 1972 Chevrolet Vega and Tyler Mayhew, of Waxhaw, N.C., claimed the Sportsman class with a 7.38 second run at 92.10 mph in his Chevrolet Nova.

"Winning at the Bellagio [zMAX Dragway] is the bomb," said Hair. "I have been able to win all over the United States, but being able to win at one of the premiere venues in the world is incredible."

Azarias Gouin, of Pawleys Island, S.C., picked up the win in Junior Dragster A, courtesy of a red light by his final round competitor. Gouin's time was 8.96 seconds at 74.68 mph. Noah Strickland, of Concord, cruised to the victory in Junior Dragster B with a time of 7.91 seconds at 83.05 mph. The NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League allows kids from ages 8 to 17 to race half-scale dragsters to the eighth-mile in a controlled environment. The downsized dragsters can reach speeds of about 85 mph. "I have won multiple Junior Dragster races, but winning an NHRA event at zMAX, which is so close to my home, is awesome," said Strickland.

Each class has separate eligibility requirements and entry fees. Points will be tallied after each event and champions in each category will be crowned. Further information can be found at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com/dragway/schedule/mayhem/. Season winners will be eligible for the NHRA bracket finals. NOS Energy Mayhem @ the MAX continues Saturday, June 9. Gates open at 9 a.m. The first time-trial will be at 11 a.m. followed by eliminations. Competitors will register at the gate. Registration and tech will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Admission for crew members is $10. Only two crew members are allowed per car, which includes access to the staging lanes and starting line. Tickets are just $5 for spectators and children 13 and under are admitted for free with a paying adult. Spectator gates open at 9 a.m.

In addition to Mayhem @ the MAX, NOS Energy Test-N-Tune will return to zMAX Dragway on Friday, June 8. Participants can bring their personal rides from dragsters, souped-up street bikes, classic cars and luxury cars to mini-vans to race on the world's only four-lane, all-concrete drag strip.

Tickets and registration will be available on the event day at zMAX Dragway. NOS Energy Test-N-Tunes are open to all street vehicles and race cars, but each vehicle must pass tech inspection.

Car-and-driver registration for the NOS Energy Test-N-Tune is only $20 per vehicle and tickets for spectators can be purchased at the gate for just $5. Kids 13 and under are free with a paying adult.

Gates and registration for Test-N-Tune open Fridays at 4 p.m., with racing action from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

More information on both events can be found at www.zmaxdragway.com.
