Top Fuel Round 1 Eliminations

COMMERCE, Ga. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals:

   21 Terry McMillen                         99 Khalid alBalooshi

 Qualified:             #9  3.876 317.27                        #8  3.873 315.12
Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.25 inches, adjusted altitude 3,099 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

McMillen is 1 - 0 against alBalooshi in prior events. McMillen is out of the gate first and drops a cylkinder right at the hit. alBalooshi had the difference made up byt the time they went by the Christmas tree and the lead at 330 feet, but then the car went up in smoke and he pedaled it, but couldn't get it to hook up. McMillen got the lead back just before half track and then the engine started eating itself and there was a quick flash of flame, but still gets the win. This is only McMillen's second round win and they both have come at the expense of alBalooshi.

   12 Bob Vandergriff                        44 David Grubnic

Grubnic is 8 - 6 against Vandergriff in prior events. Vandergriff with the starting line advantage, but Grubnic had the lead right off the starting line and then lead until just past 660 feet when it started to drop cylinders. Vandergriff drove by him to take the win at his home track.

 1236 Hillary Will                            6 Brandon Bernstein

Bernstein is 5 - 2 against Will in prior events. Will with the slight starting line advantage and then dropped a cylinder right at the hit. Bernstein had the difference made up right at the hit and then he runs his quickest pass of the weekend for the win.

  373 J.R. Todd                             475 Steve Torrence

Todd is 1 - 0 against Torrence in prior events. Torrence with the starting line advantage and then never trailed and then runs the second quickest pass of the round for the win. That will give him lane choice over Todd's teammate, Vandergriff, in the next round. Steve Torrence's MOV: 0.0312 seconds (approximately 15 feet). Todd with his quickest pass of the weekend i a losing effort.

  303 Pat Dakin                               5 Tony Schumacher

Schumacher is 3 - 0 against Dakin in prior events. Dakin with a great light and was out of the gate first. He is dropping cylinders right at the hit and then the engine lets go with a fireball. Schumacher with another good looking pass, straight down the groove to take the win light. Schumacher will have lane choice over McMillen in the next round.

  255 Clay Millican                           9 Shawn Langdon

Langdon is 3 - 2 against Millican in prior events. Langdon is out of the gate first and then is up in smoke by 200 feet and Millican takes the lead. Millican's car starts mixing up cylinders and then the engine lets go, but he still gets the win. The report from the top end is there is oil on the track. Millican will give up lane choice to Bernstein in the next round.

   34 Morgan Lucas                            2 Spencer Massey

Massey is 3 - 2 against Lucas in prior events. They have identical reaction times and then Lucas is up in smoke right at the hit while Massey is running low E.T. of the round for the win. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.168, 660ft-3.073/281.83 mph.

   22 Doug Kalitta                            3 Antron Brown

Brown is 16 - 6 against Kalitta in prior events. Brown is out of the gate first and the lead until around 800 feet when Brown starts losing traction and dropping cylinders. Kalitta grabs the lead and the win by 0.0943 seconds (approximately 39 feet). KAlitta will give up lane choice to Massey in the next round. Brown's consecutive round one wins ends at 33.
