Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

COMMERCE, Ga. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 6.581/101.38, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.608/193.74, Was #18

7:04 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.22 inches, adjusted altitude 3,294 feet, track temperature 110 degrees.

Lesenko gets about 300 feet out, has to pedal, then gives up on the run about 500 feet out.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.996/160.08, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.298/287.96, Was #15
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.138/303.23, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.432/85.06, Was #19

Wilkerson makes a full pull this time and moves all the way to the third spot. Bode was out in front early, then lost a cylinder about 300 feet out and lost power.

Left Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 7.753/84.67, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.282/287.23, Was #15
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.465/250.23, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.582/181.86, Was #18

Neff gets about 500 feet out and starts losing cylinders. Wilkerson hits the throttle, the rear of the car starts wagging around, then he wisely backs off the throttle about 400 feet out.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.144/304.39, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.273/289.26, Was #14
Right Lane: Johnny Gray No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.327/286.98, Was #17

Hagan makes a nice pass but was moving around a little near the end of the run. Gray puts out a couple of cylinders on the left side about 600 feet out, starts moving to the left, then takes out the ET timing block and will receive no time.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.276/289.20, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.261/287.05, Was #14
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.183/301.40, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.251/296.37, Was #13

Arend goes right down the groove and improves from his previous round to get in the field. Force makes a clean run but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.187/295.72, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.243/284.93, Was #13
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.173/301.13, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.216/279.21, Was #11

DeJoria dropped a cylinder, drifted to the right, but stayed on the throttle and made a decent pass to move up to the seventh spot. Head looked like he may have lost a cylinder late in the run but still improved and moved up to the ninth spot.

Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.156/305.98, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.227/298.34, Was #13
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.152/305.77, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.216/292.58, Was #12

Force was moving around early in the run but got it straightened out and moved up to the seventh spot for now. Beckman drifted a little to the right but was able to keep it away from the wall and moved into the sixth spot for now.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.114/309.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.160/304.53, Was #8
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.139/306.05, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.193/296.31, Was #13

Capps makes the quickest pass of the weekend so far and moves into the top spot for now. Pedregon starts drifting to the right but stays on the throttle and moves up to the fifth spot.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.104/308.35, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.140/299.86, Was #6
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 4.242/294.88, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.190/296.89, Was #13

Hight makes an impressive run and takes the pole for now. Alexander makes a clean run but slows from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.171/277.15, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.135/304.19, Was #4
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 7.631/78.34, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.121/302.35, Was #3

Pedregon was on a good run but started having problems late in the run. Tasca gets about 300 feet out, has problems and gives up on the run.
