Race Shortened to Eighth-Mile
By Larry Sullivan

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The rain has has come and gone, but the strong winds are forecast to continue until about 6 p.m.

The Sun is popping in and out of the clouds and the track is in good condition, but the winds present a problem once the cars clear the grandstands, which run past the 1,000-foot mark here at Gainesville.

In the interest of safety, the race distance has been cut to 1/8-mile in order to try to complete the race today.

The Top Alcohol Dragster final round will be contested during qualifying for the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals presented by in March.

The track is being groomed right now and the timing system is being changed over to 1/8-mile. Racing should resume around 2 p.m.
