Rain Ends Friday Racing
By Larry Sullivan

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - 5:20 p.m. - Racing is through for today, and there wasn't much of it.

After waiting all day to get started, it was a case of race a little, wait a little just to get through Super Street time trials, with a few brief sprinkles causing a couple of short delays.

Things took a turn for the worse during the first qualifying session for Stock Eliminator. After five pairs of cars, the sprinkles returned, forcing another delay.

This delay turned out to be the last one of the day. After a few minutes, the cars in the staging lanes started pulling out and heading back to the pits, at first singly, but that quickly turned into a parade as the sprinkles continued and the delay kept getting longer.

Finally, a real rainstorm, the heaviest of the day, came marching across the parking lots and race officials sent the rest of the cars back to the pits.

After about 20 minutes, the rain let up a bit, then stopped, but by then the damage was done, the track once again wet and shiny.

With darkness approaching, drying the track again was out of the question.

Racing will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the second round of qualifying for Stock Eliminator leading things off.
