FONTANA, Calif. --

Colleasure vs. Newman
Chris Newman won the opening event of the Southern California Pro Gas Association, '10 drag racing season at Auto Club Dragway, while Mike Blodgett Jr. took top honors at the second race, and Mike Blodgett Sr., won the '09 Pro Gas Shootout.

Newman went to the final round of the Russ Harris Memorial Race, sponsored by Harris Family Racing, with round wins against Raul Perez, Willie Herem, number one qualifier Phil Sigmon, and Anthony Broussard in the semifinal. Newman's final round opponent, Hollis Colleasure, got to the final with wins over Greg Bonds, Russ Hester, Gary Stoffer, Darren Parsons, and Bob Dillard. Newman's Cobalt took the final round win light on as Colleasure's '24 Brogie roadster got loose on the run and shut-off.

Blodgett Jr. vs. Bothe
After qualifying number one with his '72 Vega, Mike Blodgett Jr., combed through a 52-car field of 9.90 cars to win the K&N Filters/Lucas Oil-sponsored second race of the weekend. Blodgett defeated Doug Crumlich in round one, he beat his dad, Mike Blodgett Sr., in the second round, had a single in round three and beat Wayne Priddy and Tim Daniel before going to the final. Four-time Pro Gas champion Pete Bothe went to another final with his Chevy-powered '78 Porsche, beating Bob Dillard, Hollis Colleasure, Brenden Herem, and Anthony Matassa before losing in the final to Blodgett's Vega. Bothe had a .001 advantage at the line in the final, but broke out by .023 while Blodgett took the win, (.018 quick).

Shootout Final Blodgett Sr. vs. Cordeiro
The annual Pro Gas Shootout-normally held at the final race of the season but delayed because of weather problems at last year's final race-paired the eight best qualifiers during the '09 season and '04 series champion Mike Blodgett Sr., took home the top prize with his '27 Ford roadster. Blodgett beat Pete Kinney in round one and Russ Hester in the semifinal. Ray Cordeiro got to the final by stopping Pete Bothe and Wayne Newman. In the final, Blodgett got the win with a 9.896 to Cordeiro's too-quick 9.877.

Races three and four of the 8-race schedule will be held March 20-21 at Auto Club Dragway.
