Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Session #4
By Keith Burgan

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.188/185.72, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.205/185.33, Was #4
Right Lane: Mike Kovacevich Runs 7.482/176.21, Now #32; Best prior run: 7.517/174.66, Was #32

Current weather conditions: 70 degrees,55 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.16 inches, with a track temperature of 98 degrees. 11:21 and the first of the pro categories is up. Scali shows that the cool conditions this morning will probably result in wholesale changes in the order.

Left Lane: Josh Helvie Runs 7.370/178.45, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.411/176.65, Was #29
Right Lane: Sean Conner Runs 7.367/180.40, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.358/182.72, Was #23

Helvie improves but not by enough to make the show while Conner slows down.

Left Lane: Wesley Wells No Time, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.410/183.82, Was #29
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz No Time, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.361/180.28, Was #24

No help for either rider here so maybe the weather will no be as much of a factor as we thought.

Left Lane: Wesley Wells No Time, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.410/183.82, Was #29
Right Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.456/173.05, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.361/180.28, Was #24

Although Schnitz made great improvements yesterday he is off the pace today and stays well out of the field.

Left Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 7.465/173.61, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.561/175.48, Was #33
Right Lane: Keith Dennis Runs 7.378/179.37, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.352/178.38, Was #22

DeLong steps up, but even a tenth improvement leaves him 31st in the order while Dennis stays in 22nd.

Left Lane: Chris Reuter Runs 7.320/180.69, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.325/181.96, Was #17
Right Lane: Redell Harris Runs 18.276/37.74, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.351/181.69, Was #21

An improvement of .005 is not enough for Reuter and he is still one spot outside the show.

Left Lane: Keith Freeman Runs 7.456/173.27, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.369/179.97, Was #25
Right Lane: Sam Hurwitz Runs 7.559/178.14, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.344/175.84, Was #20

Both riders are well off their earlier pace this time around and will have just one more chance to make the cut this afternoon.

Left Lane: Lloyd Straus Runs 7.375/175.80, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.376/183.39, Was #28
Right Lane: Matthew Smith Runs 7.344/180.77, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.329/180.33, Was #19

Once again no help for either rider.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.217/184.30, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.261/182.43, Was #12
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.299/178.85, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.327/180.36, Was #18

Now we have some action but Berry was already in the show and simply moves up to 9th while DeSantis misses on MPH as he equals Hales' time but is some 6 mph slower.

Left Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.312/181.98, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.299/186.85, Was #16

Right Lane: Tommy Grimes Jr Runs 7.271/182.95, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.271/183.69, Was #15

Both bikes match their earlier efforts and stay in the same place in the field.

Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.238/182.48, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.210/183.44, Was #5

A slight improvement for Phillips but no help for Treble and the order still stays the same.

Left Lane: Fred Collis Runs 7.179/183.74, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.224/183.69, Was #10
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.228/182.13, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.238/184.57, Was #11

Now we have some movement as Collis finally gets a good lap in and moves way up to second while Stoffer picks up a hun and stays 11th

Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.190/184.27, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.212/183.15, Was #8
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.234/184.27, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.212/190.14, Was #7

The Harley lays one down and GT picks up four spots as he goes into the teens for the first time this weekend.

Left Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.454/144.18, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.214/188.41, Was #9
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.162/190.65, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.201/182.65, Was #6

Left Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 12.488/63.64, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.164/185.28, Was #2
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.175/184.80, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.198/185.38, Was #6

Angelle appeared to miss a shift as the bike drifted out of the groove early in the run and shuts off while Gann finds a couple of hundredths to move up to third with one session to go.
