Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #4

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 6.429/139.43, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.786/320.97, Was #4
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.949/308.50, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.873/305.91, Was #15

Current weather conditions: 73 degrees, 50 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.14 inches, with a track temperature of 112 degrees.

These first four pair are a part of the Budweiser Shootout. Densham lost traction around half track and got real close to the centerline. Worsham with a clean pass, but will not help his qualifying effort. LEFT LANE; 48485; 503FFC; Tommy Johnson Jr.; 4.911; 311.27; Now #10; 4.828; 304.94; Was #10 RIGHT LANE; 48486; 5FFC; Whit Bazemore; 4.924; 313.15; Now #3; 4.767; 323.74; Was #3 START NOTES: This was a good looking drag race, but it is not going to help them in qualifying.


Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.889/313.15, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.759/307.72, Was #1
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.927/308.35, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.813/319.52, Was #6

Force with the quickest pass of the session, so far with a good clean pass.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.071/265.74, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.823/318.02, Was #9
Right Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 6.157/153.46, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.805/311.41, Was #5

Skuza lost traction early and then Pedregon started hazing the tires on the top end.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 14.805/57.66, Now #21; Best prior run: 5.340/191.81, Was #21
Right Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 4.880/313.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.838/318.47, Was #11

Pedregon was up in as soon as he hit the throttle. Burkart with a nice looking pass here and he just ran quicker than any of the cars that were in the Shootout.

Left Lane: Cory Lee Runs 5.192/291.76, Now #20; Best prior run: 5.266/254.47, Was #20
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.868/304.60, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.853/283.25, Was #13

Bode used up all his lane, but still with the quickest pass of the session.

Left Lane: Bob Gilbertson Runs 7.180/128.80, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.023/309.56, Was #18
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 6.262/140.83, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.947/307.09, Was #17

They both started to lose traction around 300 feet and shut off.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.376/141.76, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.821/321.27, Was #7
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.860/319.52, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.864/317.64, Was #14

Gray started to haze the tires around 300 feet and clicked it off. Wilkerson was able to get it to hook up all the way down the 1320 for his best pass of the event.

Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 6.624/130.81, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.843/313.80, Was #12

Frank struck the tires right at the 330-foot mark and lifted.

Right Lane: Scotty Cannon No Time, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.822/316.60, Was #8

Cannon did his burnout and then when he tried to stage he could not get the car out of reverse.

Right Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 12.680/77.58, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.764/325.53, Was #2

Scelzi was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.
