Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from final, round 5 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Eric Shelton Runs 7.372/152.74, Now #44; Best prior run: 6.995/198.64, Was #44

Current weather conditions: 76 degrees, 46 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.08 inches, with a track temperature of 109 degrees under sunny skies.

This is the last shot of getting in the field.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 12.853/61.45, Now #40; Best prior run: 6.920/199.37, Was #40
Right Lane: Larry Peternel Runs 6.980/196.85, Now #42; Best prior run: 6.964/197.22, Was #42

Lawrence with problems early i the run and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 14.372/58.37, Now #35; Best prior run: 6.894/199.67, Was #35
Right Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 6.920/198.76, Now #36; Best prior run: 6.898/198.47, Was #36

Haas shook right off the starting line and shut it off. No help for Daniels.

Left Lane: JR Carr Runs 15.612/51.83, Now #32; Best prior run: 6.868/200.32, Was #32

Carr with a lot tire shake and got real close to the centerline before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 6.922/200.26, Now #30; Best prior run: 6.858/200.98, Was #30

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.862/200.86, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.849/200.86, Was #26
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.966/199.94, Now #31; Best prior run: 6.860/200.44, Was #31

Alderman with a 1.002 60-foot time, but can't get into the field.

Left Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 6.890/199.55, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.844/200.86, Was #25
Right Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 15.050/54.66, Now #29; Best prior run: 6.856/200.50, Was #29

Nickens spun the tires and clicked it off. Thomas was straight and true, but not enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.845/201.64, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.844/202.45, Was #24
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 7.014/199.73, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.852/200.29, Was #28

Geoffrion just a tick off his quickest pass of the event, but still not quick enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.952/199.97, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.839/200.74, Was #23
Right Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.877/200.71, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.851/200.71, Was #27

Pawuk was real loose on the starting line, but stayed with it. He will not not make the show. Patrick will not improve and will go home early.

Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 16.367/49.27, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.839/201.07, Was #22

Grant with a lot of tire shake right off the starting line and he lifted.

Left Lane: Steve Johns Runs 6.862/201.28, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.839/202.70, Was #21
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 11.003/97.26, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.835/201.43, Was #18

Allen was real loose right off the starting line and made a quick move toward the wall before he clicked it off. Johns made a good pass, but will not get in the show with this pass.

Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.874/200.65, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.836/201.28, Was #19
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.857/201.25, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.832/201.55, Was #15

Whisnant will not get in the show here and Johnson will stay in, but will not improve.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.891/200.53, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.834/201.16, Was #17
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.841/201.52, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.823/202.03, Was #11

Stanfield is the last one that can bump into the show. He does not do it, so the from here on they will be racing for starting positions.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.857/200.98, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.833/201.79, Was #16
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 13.164/64.51, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.822/201.82, Was #10

Lastor shook and was out of the groove earl and shut it off.

Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 12.443/66.73, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.830/201.10, Was #14
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.846/201.16, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.816/201.49, Was #8

Marnell with tire shake and clicked it off. Edwards with a good looking pass.

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.836/202.24, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.830/201.37, Was #13
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.838/201.37, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.816/201.58, Was #7

While nobody is picking up this session, Schmidt almost matches his qualifying time.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 11.235/86.07, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.825/202.18, Was #12
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.834/202.12, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.811/201.85, Was #5

Warren was real loose right off the starting line and out of the groove and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 13.881/60.23, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.819/202.21, Was #9
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.822/201.91, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.810/202.97, Was #4

Line had bunch of smoke trailing it right from the start much like the last session. Yates with a great looking pass, quick pass of the session.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.835/201.49, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.814/201.73, Was #6
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.794/203.03, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.786/205.01, Was #3

Wow Anderson with 6.79 in the heat of the day. Krisher with a quicker 60-foot time. Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-1.006 sec., 330ft-2.840, 660ft-4.368/161.11mph, 1,000ft-5.684.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 12.683/67.59, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.778/203.77, Was #1
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.826/201.43, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.785/204.63, Was #2

Johnson was loose right off the starting line and clicked it off. Jeg with a nice looking pass to finish up qualifying. Johnson will hold on to the number one spot and Troy Coughlin held on to the bump spot.
