Ron Capps is number one in Funny Car points this season, and he'll remain on the top whether he wins or loses. He has 27 event wins in 56 final rounds (26 in Funny Car and 1 in Top Fuel). He won the fall event here in 2001 and 2005, and he was runner up at this event in 2006 and 2007. He is tied with Tony Pedregon for the longest qualifying streak among active Funny Car drivers at 44. He finished second in season points in 1998, 2000 and 2005.

Matt Hagan is a Rookie of the Year contender in 2009. His semifinal win today moved him into second place in NHRA Funny Car Points. He has one first-round, two quarterfinal and one semifinal finish in his NHRA Funny Car career entering this event.

This was a real close race until just after half track when Hagan started hazing the tires. Ron Capps collects his 27th Funny Car Wally!
