Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 16th annual O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 7.162/191.62, Now #1

Current weather conditions: 66 degrees, 77 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.09 inches, with a track temperature of 93 degrees under cloudy skies.

Cunningham straight down the groove.

Left Lane: Eric Shelton Runs 6.949/198.96, Now #2
Right Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 6.870/200.59, Now #1

Shelton chatters the tires right off the starting line and made a move toward the centerline. Nickens with a little tire shake right off the starting line, but still a nice pass.

Left Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 7.350/158.22, Now #5
Right Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 6.892/199.29, Now #2

Maldonado's chute deployed a soon as he launched.

Left Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 6.874/200.77, Now #2
Right Lane: Nick Fratt Runs 8.284/118.62, Now #7

Fratt with a lot of tire shake and shut off..

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.868/201.10, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 6.886/199.08, Now #4

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.819/201.79, Now #1
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.881/200.29, Now #5

Schmidt with a 1.011 60-foot time and drives to the number one spot. Schmidt sets the track mph mark here.

Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 9.040/103.63, Now #13
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.804/202.67, Now #1

Marnell with violent tire shake and made a quick move toward the centerline and finally clicked it off. Connolly with great pass here to go to number one and he resets that track mph record.

Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 12.515/67.10, Now #15
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.859/201.70, Now #3

Grant with tire shake and shut off early. Wilson goes into the third spot.

Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.844/201.43, Now #3
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.889/201.10, Now #10

Whisnant with tire shake right off the starting line and stays with it.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.798/202.76, Now #1
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.857/202.42, Now #5

Morgan with the first sub-1 second 60-foot time of the weekend and he parlayed that into the number one spot. Morgan sets the track E.T. mark here and ties the track mph mark Connolly just set.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.932/199.49, Now #15
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 6.838/201.64, Now #4

Pawuk made a quick move toward the centerline, but reels it to get in the show for now.

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.821/201.88, Now #4
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.851/201.01, Now #7

A couple nice passes to get them into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.831/202.52, Now #6
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.814/201.64, Now #3

Yates with a 1.001 60-foot time and slides right in behind Morgan and Connolly. Allen gets into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.824/202.70, Now #7
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.812/202.03, Now #3

Edwards with a nice looking pass here to get in the top half of the show. Geoffrion resets the track mph record here.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.820/201.70, Now #7
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.803/201.82, Now #2

Krisher with a 0.999 60-foot time and he goes into the number two spot. Johnson gets into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.857/202.27, Now #16
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.835/201.97, Now #11

Both cars launch hard with sub one second 60 foot times, but slow a little in the middle of the pass.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.805/203.09, Now #5
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.798/203.46, Now #1

Anderson with nice looking pass and ties Morgan for quick E.T. of the session, but will get number one spot based on the faster mph. Johnson sets the track mph record.
