Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 21st annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Pat Dakin Runs 4.094/294.05, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 6.488/95.82, Now #14; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.72 inches, adjusted altitude 2,472 feet, track temperature 111 degrees.

Zizzo started to smoke the tires around 200 feet and clicked it off. Dakin with a little wiggle right on the top end.


Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 8.992/82.12, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 7.648/86.79, Now #15; No Prior Run

Lucas was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Todd lost traction around 100 feet.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 9.819/76.90, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.911/307.58, Was #12
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.944/300.46, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.909/292.96, Was #11

Millican is up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Fuller with a clean pass, but doesn't improve on his time from yesterday.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 4.922/143.28, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.871/310.05, Was #9
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.913/299.86, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.873/310.13, Was #10

Brown with a whisp of tire smoke around the 330-foot mark and he clicked it off. McClenathan with a clean pass, but he will not improve and will stay in the No. 10 position.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.917/297.55, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.865/308.50, Was #8
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.346/188.73, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.861/312.13, Was #7

Dixon was able to get down the lane that had been giving everyone else some tire smoke problems. Vandergriff started to haze the tires around 600 feet and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 3.931/298.40, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.853/311.49, Was #5
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.884/305.36, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.859/305.29, Was #6

Schumacher launched hard and keep the Goodyear hooked up for the quickest pass of the session. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.168, 660ft-3.097/271.90 mph. Herbert with a nice clean pass, but doesn't improve and will stay No. 5.

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.897/303.23, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.848/311.13, Was #4
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.774/153.02, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.838/311.20, Was #3

Kalitta started to smoke the tires around half track and clicked it off. Grubnic with a great looking pass for second quickest of the session...David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.187, 660ft-3.110/273.94 mph.

Left Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.893/297.02, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.825/313.88, Was #1
Right Lane: Hillary Will Runs 3.910/301.87, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.826/313.66, Was #2

Another great drag race between these two as they wrap up this session with the quickest and third quickest passes of the session. Bernstein launched hard and keep the Goodyears glued to the track for the quickest pass of the session. Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.844 sec., 330ft-2.163, 660ft-3.093/272.17 mph.
Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.116/270.32 mph.
