Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 23rd annual O'Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tim Boychuk Runs 4.164/249.21, Now #17; Best prior run: 3.989/263.46, Was #17
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.890/145.09, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.680/109.95, Was #18

Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.47 inches, adjusted altitude 3,098 feet, track temperature 122 degrees.

Grubnic is up in smoke by half track and he will not make the show. Boychuk started to haze the tires on the top end and he will not get into the show.


Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.967/292.52, Now #16; Best prior run: 3.987/287.84, Was #16
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 4.023/264.39, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.903/299.93, Was #12

So will now know who is racing on Sunday, all that is left is to pair them up. Lucas improves, but will stay on the bump spot. Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.199, 660ft-3.147/266.64 mph. No help here for Hartley.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 4.065/236.26, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.946/300.86, Was #15
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 5.233/135.56, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.902/307.23, Was #11

Herbert's car pitched the blower belt, so he will stay in the No. 15 spot. Massey blistered the tires around the 330-foot mark.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.961/300.73, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.946/304.60, Was #14
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.920/299.73, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.897/309.06, Was #10

A couple good clean passes, neither driver improves, but go into Sunday with good passes in the heat of the day. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.210, 660ft-3.158/266.79 mph.
Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.114/268.38 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.954/304.67, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.923/304.80, Was #13
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.149/215.24, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.896/308.50, Was #9

Fuller starts to haze the tires around 600 feet and clicks it off. Millican with another nice pass and he will start tomorrow from the 13th position. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.215, 660ft-3.160/269.56 mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.901/309.98, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.880/310.98, Was #8
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.912/297.81, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.874/303.37, Was #7

This was a good side-by-side drag race. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.182, 660ft-3.116/270.75 mph.
Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.165, 660ft-3.106/268.54 mph.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.920/305.49, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.874/307.72, Was #6
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.977/298.14, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.861/312.64, Was #4

A couple nice looking passes, but no improvements. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.187, 660ft-3.129/270.21 mph.
Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.214, 660ft-3.168/265.43 mph.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.932/306.95, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.866/313.00, Was #5
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.886/308.07, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.842/315.19, Was #2

Good, clean pass for McClenathan...Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.858 sec., 330ft-2.195, 660ft-3.139/267.75 mph. Bernstein with the quickest pass of the round...Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.099/270.43 mph

Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 3.959/304.67, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.849/314.97, Was #3

Dixon was scheduled to line up against Will and he decided to sit this round out. Will was straight down the groove...Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.216, 660ft-3.164/267.64 mph. Dixon will hold on to the number one spot for the third race in a row and the fourth time this season. It is also his 31st number one qualifier award.
