Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 23rd annual O'Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Gaylen Smith Runs 6.098/232.51, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.461/190.92, Was #18
Right Lane: Kirk Wilmes Runs 6.278/226.92, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.408/216.69, Was #16

10:53 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 29.54 inches, adjusted altitude 2,643 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

A couple of clean, straight passes, Smith improves and gets in the show, Wilmes moves off the bump.


Left Lane: Steve Wiley Runs 6.406/216.13, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.442/217.25, Was #18
Right Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 8.453/110.33, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.372/181.08, Was #17

Commisso gets about 200 feet out, the car starts to go sideways, and he backs off the throttle. Wiley drifted to the right early in the run, got it back in the groove, but still can't get in the show.

Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.069/238.34, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.273/239.14, Was #14
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 6.349/224.73, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.339/220.48, Was #16

Knowles goes right down the groove with his best pass of the weekend and moves up to the ninth spot. Lastor makes a clean, straight pass but can't improve and stays on the bump.

Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 8.994/98.88, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.107/207.88, Was #12
Right Lane: Rick Distefano Runs 6.122/230.96, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.221/231.16, Was #14

Payne rattles the tires early, makes a move to the left, then hard to the right. He gets about 300 feet out and backs off the throttle. Distefano moves around early in the run but hangs on to improve to the 13th spot.

Left Lane: Scott Ray No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.069/218.76, Was #10
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.120/234.45, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.186/233.88, Was #14

Ray has problems after the burnout and is unable to stage. Coughlin goes right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up a notch.

Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 6.076/234.53, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.062/235.19, Was #7
Right Lane: Tim Tindle Runs 6.042/235.64, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.066/236.09, Was #8

Tindle drifts to the right early but slowly gets it back in the groove. He makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up two notches to the sixth spot. Smith makes a decent pass but doesn't improve and drops a notch.

Left Lane: Harold Laird Runs 6.967/148.31, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.055/237.17, Was #7
Right Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 6.062/234.70, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.016/235.80, Was #4

Laird has problems late in the run and the car noses over. Kuhns makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 6.035/238.60, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.029/239.78, Was #5
Right Lane: Joe Baker Runs 5.971/241.24, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.004/240.81, Was #2

Baker makes a great pass and is the second driver to dip into the 5's this weekend. Rowe makes another good run but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.007/238.68, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.011/238.60, Was #3
Right Lane: Joshua Hernandez Runs 5.994/240.42, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.964/242.02, Was #1

Hernandez has been quick and consistent all weekend, three passes, all three in the 5's. Pontieri makes another good run but doesn't improve and will stay in the third spot.
