Pro Modified Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 23rd annual O'Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Raymond Vettel No Time, Now #18; Best prior run: 11.964/75.25, Was #18

8:37 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 54 percent, barometer 29.45 inches, adjusted altitude 2,420 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

A bad start for this session. Vettel gets out of the groove about 600 feet out and makes a move toward the left wall. He gets close to the left wall about 800 feet out, veers to the right and crosses the centerline. He continues toward the right wall, spins around and hits the wall at the finish line, then continues down the track for about 300 feet.

Word from the top end, he will be transported for evaluation.

Left Lane: Kirk Wilmes Runs 6.408/216.69, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.543/220.30, Was #14
Right Lane: Von Smith Runs 6.062/235.19, Now #4; No Prior Run

Smith makes a great first pass, moving around just a little early in the run, and he gets in the fourth spot. Wilmes was moving around all the way through the run, then he crosses over into the right lane after the finish line just behind Smith.

Left Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 8.310/113.03, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.372/181.08, Was #12
Right Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 6.029/239.78, Now #3; Best prior run: 8.264/113.66, Was #18

Commisso gets out of shape early in the run then gives it up about 300 feet out. Rowe makes a great pass and gets into the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 10.552/82.69, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.339/220.48, Was #12
Right Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.273/239.14, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.764/120.88, Was #18

Lastor gets out of shape early and has to give up on the run. Knowles makes a decent pass and gets in the show in the 12th spot.

Left Lane: Rick Distefano Runs 10.141/81.31, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.221/231.16, Was #11
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 6.107/207.88, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.688/125.89, Was #18

Distefano gets out of shape early and has to abort the run. Payne makes a full pass this time and gets in the show in the ninth spot.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.626/147.97, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.186/233.88, Was #11
Right Lane: Steve Wiley Runs 6.442/217.25, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.528/216.03, Was #18

Coughlin was on a decent pass but the chutes came out about 1000 feet out. Wiley improves from his earlier run but still doesn't get in the field.

Left Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 6.016/235.80, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.112/234.21, Was #10
Right Lane: Gaylen Smith No Time, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.461/190.92, Was #18

Smith starts drifting out of the groove early, then crosses the centerline and takes out the half-track cone.Kuhns makes a good run and moves all the way to the third spot.

Left Lane: Tim Tindle Runs 6.194/192.41, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.066/236.09, Was #7
Right Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.011/238.60, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.084/237.55, Was #9

Pontieri makes another good run and moves into the third spot. Tindle made a little move to the right near the end of the run and backed off the throttle.

Left Lane: Joe Baker Runs 6.004/240.81, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.010/239.82, Was #2
Right Lane: Scott Ray No Time, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.069/218.76, Was #9

This was a scary one. Baker gets out in front, then Ray makes a hard move to the left, crosses the centerline, then falls in right behind Baker. He stays behind Baker all the way through the finish line.

Left Lane: Joshua Hernandez Runs 5.973/241.54, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.964/242.02, Was #1
Right Lane: Harold Laird Runs 7.722/126.00, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.055/237.17, Was #6

Laird got out of the groove about 400 feet out, starts moving around, gets close to the centerline, then finally gives up on the run. Hernandez makes another great pass, right down the groove and he stays on the pole.
