Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Darin McCurdy Runs 7.344/180.36, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.056/178.76, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.826/137.32, Was #17

Weather conditions: air temperature 90 degrees, relative humidity 54 percent, barometer 29.32 inches, adjusted altitude 3,665 feet, track temperature 122 degrees.

2:58 p.m. This first pair is going to be really interesting. Angelle Sampey has never not qualified for a race in, 178 tries. All the eyes in the stands are watching this run with much anticipation. Well her streak will remain. Sampey goes all the way to 10th in the ladder.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.189/186.51, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.197/181.86, Was #16
Right Lane: Valerie Thompson Runs 7.262/179.14, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.291/178.80, Was #17

Thompson just got bumped out and Gann is on the bump spot. Thompson doesn't have the power to get her bike into the show tomorrow. Gann makes a very nice run and he will race tomorrow from the 16th spot.

Valerie Thompson's incremental times: 60ft-1.098 sec., 330ft-2.978, 660ft-4.583/151.48mph, 1,000ft-6.017


Left Lane: Wes Wells Runs 7.167/187.16, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.072/189.68, Was #11
Right Lane: Angie McBride Runs 7.066/187.99, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.166/183.89, Was #15

McBride picks up a bunch and she will move into the 11th spot. Wells runs great but gets bumped down a position.

Angie McBride's incremental times: 60ft-1.100 sec., 330ft-2.940, 660ft-4.501/156.64mph, 1,000ft-5.878


Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.038/189.28, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.044/188.89, Was #9
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.200/187.26, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.114/190.19, Was #15

DeSantis makes a move at 400ft but he is able to hold on. Arana makes a really great run and he moves into the top half the ladder.

Joe DeSantis' incremental times: 60ft-1.121 sec., 330ft-3.014, 660ft-4.608/153.77mph, 1,000ft-6.004


Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.097/187.16, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.044/191.02, Was #9
Right Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.060/187.16, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.102/184.42, Was #14

Guidera picks up .04 and he will go to the 11th spot for now. Treble makes a very nice run but he remains in the 9th position.

Craig Treble's incremental times: 60ft-1.097 sec., 330ft-2.946, 660ft-4.519/155.90mph, 1,000ft-5.905
Matt Guidera's incremental times: 60ft-1.072 sec., 330ft-2.912, 660ft-4.484/155.90mph, 1,000ft-5.867


Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.102/186.12, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.036/191.19, Was #6
Right Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.136/186.30, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.098/184.47, Was #14

Neither of these bikes improve. Pippin will stay 14th and Ellis 6th.

Junior Pippin's incremental times: 60ft-1.112 sec., 330ft-2.980, 660ft-4.557/155.52mph, 1,000ft-5.941


Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.024/189.90, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.981/192.30, Was #3
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.045/190.94, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.037/189.71, Was #7

Krawiec and Stoffer both make very respectable runs.

Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.084/190.35, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.029/189.07, Was #5

Rivas has trouble early. Johnson makes a really nice looking run.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.032/190.59, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.952/192.08, Was #1
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.020/190.65, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.007/191.24, Was #4

Our final pair of Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying. It's very good side-by-side run. Smith will stay on top, where as Hines will stay at the 4th spot.
