Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tim Boychuk Runs 12.922/78.79, Now #17; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 73 percent, barometer 29.42 inches, adjusted altitude 3,003 feet, track temperature 97 degrees.

Boychuk hot off his IHRA win last week in Epping is making his NHRA debut. He had a mechanical problem as soon as the light turned green and he just coasted on through the 1000 feet.


Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.883/312.93, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.089/244.69, Was #14
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.865/311.20, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.835/154.42, Was #16

This was a great side-by-side drag race with the header flames shooting high into the air. They go to the number one and three spots. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.178, 660ft-3.109/275.22mph.
Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.173, 660ft-3.090/276.52mph.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.027/296.37, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.984/304.94, Was #13
Right Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.876/311.92, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.169/230.49, Was #16

If the Funny car was session was any indication this should be a great session under the lights. No help here for Lucas. Grubnic launched hard and keep the Goodyears hooked up for 1000 feet to go to the number two spot. David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.198, 660ft-3.104/279.27mph. This is the fastest Grubnic has gone in the 1000 feet.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.931/305.77, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.980/306.74, Was #13
Right Lane: Doug Herbert Runs 3.870/311.49, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.088/268.38, Was #16

Herbert with a great looking pass and he goes to the number two spot...Doug Herbert's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.175, 660ft-3.094/278.52mph. Millican with a nice pass to get into the show...Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.217, 660ft-3.141/273.05mph.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 6.170/98.70, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.937/308.92, Was #12
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 3.898/306.95, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.008/295.08, Was #16

Schumacher over powered the track early and was up in smoke, so he will go into Saturday not in the show. Vandergriff with a good clean pass to get into the top half of the show. Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.185, 660ft-3.115/273.83mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.872/309.77, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.936/310.84, Was #12
Right Lane: Doug Foley No Time, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.954/307.44, Was #15

Kalitta gets off the bubble and up to the number two spot with a real nice pass. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.181, 660ft-3.094/276.35mph. Foley starts to get out of the groove and close to the centerline and then collects the finish line cones.

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.889/304.60, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.933/304.94, Was #12
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 8.979/89.70, Now #14; Best prior run: 3.937/304.67, Was #14

Buff is up in smoke right off the starting line and clicks it off. Fuller improves and he moves up the ladder five spots. Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.175, 660ft-3.098/272.83mph.

Left Lane: Hillary Will Runs 3.869/315.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.927/308.07, Was #11
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.863/312.13, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.903/312.71, Was #9

This was a great drag race with Cory Mac going to the top of the list. Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.171, 660ft-3.087/275.79mph. Will with her fastest pass in the 1000-foot era and the fastest of the event. Hillary Will's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.193, 660ft-3.100/278.29mph.

Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.846/310.20, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.910/309.13, Was #11
Right Lane: Brandon Bernstein Runs 3.875/309.49, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.880/313.80, Was #7

Bernstein with good clean pass and had the best seat in the house to watch Dixon go to the No. 1 spot. Dixon with a great pass...Larry Dixon's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.167, 660ft-3.073/278.40mph.
