Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Jason Murray

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Angie McBride Runs 7.213/183.47, Now #14; Best prior run: 9.201/97.14, Was #18

Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 70 percent, barometer 29.41 inches, adjusted altitude 3,130 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

The air is getting wetter as we speak. McBride still having to fight the bike, but she does better job than last time and makes a full pass.

Angie McBride's incremental times: 60ft-1.084 sec., 330ft-2.929, 660ft-4.559/149.08mph, 1,000ft-5.994

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.929/127.19, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.322/181.11, Was #17
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.295/185.84, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.246/186.02, Was #16

Gann is all over the place at the top end as he really fights the bike. DeSantis two steps the bike off the line.

Joe DeSantis' incremental times: 60ft-1.222 sec., 330ft-3.116, 660ft-4.701/154.39mph, 1,000ft-6.096

Left Lane: Wes Wells Runs 7.094/189.34, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.182/187.44, Was #13
Right Lane: Valerie Thompson Runs 7.329/177.88, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.220/184.07, Was #15

Wells makes a really strong run as he moves up into the 9th spot. Thompson had a hard time getting the bike to shift, and then to add insult to injury she puts her Buell in the sand trap. Valerie is our first driver to make the trip into the zMax Dragway sand trap.

Wes Wells' incremental times: 60ft-1.098 sec., 330ft-2.952, 660ft-4.531/155.02mph, 1,000ft-5.911

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.044/188.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.157/189.73, Was #13
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.255/181.69, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.123/187.26, Was #12

Sampey rolled the beams a little and her time suffers from it. Arana though makes a really strong run to move him up into the 8th position.

Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.084 sec., 330ft-2.919, 660ft-4.487/156.43mph, 1,000ft-5.862

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.083/185.72, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.044/191.02, Was #7
Right Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.131/183.97, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.114/184.27, Was #12

In theory this round of qualifying should be quicker than earlier because the sun has gone away, but the humidity is rising very quickly so who really knows what is going to happen. Neither rider improves from the times they posted earlier today.

Craig Treble's incremental times: 60ft-1.075 sec., 330ft-2.917, 660ft-4.498/155.20mph, 1,000ft-5.886
Junior Pippin's incremental times: 60ft-1.087 sec., 330ft-2.930, 660ft-4.518/154.05mph, 1,000ft-5.919

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.090/186.41, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.036/191.19, Was #6
Right Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.170/184.19, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.102/184.42, Was #11

Ellis had a little trouble getting his bike to fire but is able to get the engine to roll over. Both bikes make very nice runs, but they do slow down from earlier.

Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.093 sec., 330ft-2.943, 660ft-4.516/155.88mph, 1,000ft-5.898
Matt Guidera's incremental times: 60ft-1.110 sec., 330ft-2.974, 660ft-4.560/154.51mph, 1,000ft-5.960

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.009/189.60, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.981/192.30, Was #3
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.037/189.71, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.077/190.48, Was #9

Stoffer is one of the few riders to make a move up the ladder as she makes a really nice looking pass down zMax Dragway.

Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.075 sec., 330ft-2.897, 660ft-4.461/156.97mph, 1,000ft-5.832
Karen Stoffer's incremental times: 60ft-1.079 sec., 330ft-2.915, 660ft-4.482/156.32mph, 1,000ft-5.858

Left Lane: Chris Rivas Runs 7.063/186.38, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.968/191.19, Was #2
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.085/188.12, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.032/192.22, Was #5

Johnson is coming into zMax Dragway on a winning streak. Rivas is sitting in the #2 spot on the ladder. No improvements from either teams here.

Chris Rivas' incremental times: 60ft-1.084 sec., 330ft-2.913, 660ft-4.485/155.56mph, 1,000ft-5.868
Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.107 sec., 330ft-2.947, 660ft-4.520/156.08mph, 1,000ft-5.899

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.005/189.15, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.952/192.08, Was #1
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.026/188.60, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.007/191.24, Was #4

Our final pair bikes roll up to the line. Smith is sitting in the top spot right now. Very solid runs for both riders in this pair. Going into tomorrow Matt Smith will be #1 and Junior Pippin will be on the bump.
