Funny Car Round 3 Eliminations
By Darryl Jackman

POMONA, Calif. - Results of round 3 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 43nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals:

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

 Qualified: #7 4.807 318.62 #14 4.827 316.45
3:22 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 28.95 inches, adjusted altitude 2,350 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

Hight needs to win and run better than 4.705 to have a backup for the ET record. Then he needs to win the final and set the record. Uhh...not going to happen. Hight gets the win but he's well off the pace for the record. That hands the Funny Car Championship to Tony Pedregon officially...Bob Frey says so!

 Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-----Car#-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT----ET---Speed

We have an all Force final as Burkart takes the Champ's racer to the final round and face the other Force car with Hight aboard. Neither driver had a great light but Burkart certainly had the longer fuse. Phil Burkart's MOV: 0.0423 seconds (approximately 19 feet).
