POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 43nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.472/173.34, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.375/178.76, Was #19
Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 28.98 inches, adjusted altitude 2,607 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.
No help for Schnitz to open the final session.
Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.141/187.00, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.108/189.79, Was #16
Right Lane: Angie McBride Runs 7.057/182.28, Now #13; No Prior Run
Not sure of everything behind this but Chris Rivas has been withdrawn and Angie McBride gets the call for a one shot qualifying deal. Wonder of wonders! She actually puts the bike in the show and now waits to see what happens in the rest of the session. I think we'll be hearing more about this in the near future.
Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.150/185.74, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.097/188.02, Was #16
Right Lane: Michael Ray Runs 7.277/181.59, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.170/181.23, Was #19
Gann is on the bump with his 7.097 and he fails to improve on his final hit. Ray will be a spectator on Sunday I'm afraid.
Left Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.124/185.10, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.066/186.33, Was #14
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.427/185.41, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.129/185.51, Was #18
Right now it appears that Pippin is going to make this field. Certainly a great start for him. Berry just can't put it all together.
Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.065/188.89, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.035/190.30, Was #12
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.103/189.31, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.067/190.08, Was #15
Both are in but neither can improve.
Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.149/188.04, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.022/190.14, Was #10
Johnson falls way off his best pace as he spins the tire hard at the hit.
Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.105/189.07, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.021/192.11, Was #9
Right Lane: Matt Guidera Runs 7.061/181.32, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.023/187.94, Was #11
McBride's run just looks better and better.
Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.051/188.07, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.006/188.15, Was #8
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.076/189.18, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.006/191.38, Was #7
The sun has been on the racing surface since early this morning and these folks with only one rear tire seem to be paying a price. More tire spin for this pair.
Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.001/189.02, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.972/189.90, Was #6
Right Lane: Peggy Llewellyn Runs 7.085/184.04, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.969/188.73, Was #5
Krawiec goes quick for the final session. Llewellyn remains #5.
Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.992/189.79, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.965/190.46, Was #4
Right Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.972/190.97, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.965/191.46, Was #3
No improvement at all.
Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.992/191.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.956/192.22, Was #1
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.999/190.83, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.959/191.65, Was #2
This was a thing of beauty. Both riders were absolutely motionless on their bikes after they went into their tucks. They just didn't move a BIT! That's all for bike qualifying and the Chris Rivas/Angie McBride soap opera.
