By David Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 43nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.679/206.57, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.930/204.73, Was #22
Right Lane: Bob Panella Runs 14.026/62.24, Now #23; No Prior Run

2:06 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 28.93 inches, adjusted altitude 2,692 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

Panella's problems continue, as he has a 1.039 sixty foot time and then clicks it. Looks like we should have a strong session, as Krisher shows his horse power and powers into the #1 spot. Krisher says, We unshook the car and it didn't rattle like yesterday.

Left Lane: Gordie Rivera Runs 6.779/198.70, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.822/202.64, Was #22
Right Lane: Todd Hoerner Runs 6.804/204.57, Now #23; Best prior run: 15.280/78.45, Was #24

Two more big moves, but neither car will qualify.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.787/204.11, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.761/203.58, Was #21
Right Lane: Tommy Brown Runs 11.935/75.22, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.761/205.38, Was #20

Watson's car zigs and zags towards the center line before he gets it back in the groove. He runs close to yesterday and will stay #21. Brown is off the throttle right after the sixty foot mark.

Left Lane: Craig Hankinson Runs 6.705/206.07, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.760/205.26, Was #19
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 9.789/93.54, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.737/205.13, Was #16

Hammond is loose off the line and has to lift. Hankinson gets the horsepower down and picks up nine spots on the ladder, missing the top half of the field by 0.001.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.727/205.41, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.752/205.26, Was #19
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.734/206.07, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.732/205.26, Was #16

Mike Edwards is on the bump spot at 6.732 and gets to watch Yates take over that spot and bump him out of the field.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.694/206.89, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.739/205.98, Was #19
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.725/205.72, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.722/205.66, Was #15

WOW! Big move up the ladder for a strong running Stanfield into the current #4 spot. That pushes Kaptain Krazy into the bump spot.

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.667/207.43, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.713/206.76, Was #14
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.675/207.98, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.720/207.05, Was #15

Say Hello to you new #1 AND #2 qualifiers. Connolly is first into the six sixty sixes and Line runs almost 208 MPH.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.682/206.80, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.708/205.85, Was #14
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.723/206.48, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.710/205.88, Was #15

Morgan finds some ET and thunders into the top half of the field in the current #4 spot. Gaines runs faster than his prior run, but can't improve.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.692/206.73, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.706/206.73, Was #14
Right Lane: Max Naylor Runs 6.692/205.16, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.704/205.60, Was #12

KJ jogs off the line and stays in front of Naylor, as both cars improve into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.702/207.11, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.699/206.73, Was #13
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.678/207.27, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.696/206.23, Was #12

Nice pass for Johnson into the new #3 spot. Humphreys car made a move off the line and it likely cost him some ET.

Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.665/206.76, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.694/206.51, Was #11
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.884/207.34, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.695/207.24, Was #12

MOPAR vs. Pontiac on the line. Stevens has the power down in spades with a 0.989 sixty foot time and steals away the #1 spot. WJ had an improved MPH, but suffered with a 1.104 sixty foot time.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.673/207.02, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.690/207.18, Was #8
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.692/207.82, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.689/206.95, Was #7

Coughlin's car moves around at the hit and he doesn't improve his ET. Anderson is straight and true to the finish line and moves back into #3 spot.

2:28 p.m. Richie Stevens is #1 with a strong 6.665 ET and Kenny Koretsky is on the bump spot at 6.722.
