Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 7.062/119.53, Now #19; Best prior run: 5.591/182.65, Was #19

4:24 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 87 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 29.38 inches, adjusted altitude 2,752 feet, track temperature 125 degrees.

The last chance for points leader Hight to get in the show. He hasn't made a full pass this weekend......and he still hasn't. He gets about 300 feet out, goes up in smoke, then has to give up on the run.

Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.979/311.13, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.911/311.41, Was #16
Right Lane: Scott Kalitta Runs 11.432/77.13, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.271/265.38, Was #18

Kalitta gets about 300 feet out and goes up in smoke. Tolver makes a decent pass for the conditions but stays on the bump. Densham is up next with a chance to bump into the field.

Left Lane: Tony Bartone No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.888/308.85, Was #14
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.945/297.22, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.923/309.70, Was #17

Bartone is in the show and elects not to make a pass this round. Densham's last shot. If he gets in Toliver goes home. He can't do get in the show. A clean run, right down the groove, but not quick enough to bump out Toliver and get in the show.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.168/289.20, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.884/316.82, Was #12
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 6.235/145.85, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.907/305.15, Was #15

Johnson was on a decent pass then the car nosed over around half track. Capps got a little out of the groove, drifted toward the wall, then backed off the throttle about 1200 feet down.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 5.604/180.81, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.866/295.72, Was #10
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.032/291.38, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.884/291.63, Was #13

Pedregon hazed the tires about 300 feet out and he clicked it off. Head makes a decent run but clicked it off just a little early.

Left Lane: Kenny Bernstein Runs 6.519/133.71, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.840/314.31, Was #6

Bernstein gets about 400 feet out and goes up in smoke.

Left Lane: Ashley Force Runs 4.914/310.34, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.818/314.53, Was #5
Right Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.907/313.58, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.863/307.72, Was #9

A couple of pretty good runs, both right down the groove.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.812/125.46, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.808/294.37, Was #4
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.926/304.74, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.860/317.34, Was #8

Worsham starts hazing the tires about 400 feet out and has to back off the throttle. Pedregon makes a full pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 5.205/219.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.801/321.35, Was #3
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.871/318.39, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.851/317.79, Was #7

Beckman makes an impressive run, the quickest of the round so far. Force was on a good pass, ahead of Beckman at the 330, but then starts hazing the tires and finally giving up on the run.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.000/260.51, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.787/318.17, Was #1
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.050/248.29, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.788/320.36, Was #2

Wilkerson geta about 1200 feet down and hazes the tires. Arend hazes the tires about 1000 feet down and clicks it off.
