Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 22st annual O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Carl Magee Runs 7.051/217.28, Now #2
Right Lane: Karl Brounkowski Runs 5.785/253.33, Now #1

11:31 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.40 inches, adjusted altitude 2,236 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.

Magee had cylinders out at the hit and the car never made a good move. Brounkowski went right down the groove.

Left Lane: Aaron Tatum Runs 5.345/276.29, Now #1
Right Lane: Chris Holley Runs 5.856/236.59, Now #3

An impressive run by Tatum. He pulls the wheels off the line and carries them for about 60 feet. He goes right down the groove and runs a career best ET and speed.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 5.593/249.49, Now #2
Right Lane: Jeff Hamelink Runs 5.901/227.34, Now #5

Buff rattled the tires, pedaled it once about 300 feet out, then went on through with a decent run. Hamelink got about 200 feet out and put out a couple of cylinders.

Left Lane: Artie Allen Runs 6.441/209.52, Now #7
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 5.549/257.78, Now #2

Allen had cylinders out on both sides of the engine all the way through the run. Langdon goes right down the groove to get in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Darvin Martinets Runs 5.521/259.91, Now #2
Right Lane: James Thompson Runs 5.541/265.85, Now #3

A good side-by-side, both go right down the groove and they get in the second and third spots.

Left Lane: Bill Evans Runs 5.727/224.77, Now #7
Right Lane: Brandon Lewis Runs 5.630/258.62, Now #6

Evans had a cylinder out early then lost another one around half-track. Lewis makes a decent pass to get in the top half of the field for now.

Left Lane: Darryl Hitchman Runs 5.632/247.84, Now #7
Right Lane: Brandon Johnson Runs 5.835/245.14, Now #10

No apparent problems for either driver, both right down the groove.

Left Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.536/257.92, Now #4
Right Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.306/274.55, Now #1

A great run for Olivarez here, right down the groove and he takes the top spot for now. Meyer made a decent pass but not up to his potential.

Left Lane: Kate Harker Runs 5.340/267.11, Now #2
Right Lane: Brandon Pierce Runs 5.559/265.12, Now #8

Harker had the same 60 foot time as Olivarez but fell behind a little after that and moves into the second spot. Pierce made a decent pass to get in the eighth spot for now.

Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.740/245.18, Now #13
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.767/263.31, Now #14

Hirata had a couple of cylinders out at the hit and the car never really made a good move. Finke stumbled off the line and never really made a good move.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.538/269.03, Now #6
Right Lane: Spencer Massey No Time, Now #22

Massey completes his burnout and a fire erupts. The fire doesn't last long but Massey jumps out of the car and helps push it off the track. Shields makes a good run and gets in the show in the sixth spot. Brounkowski is on the bump with a 5.785.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.509/259.11, Now #5
Right Lane: Thomas Bayer Runs 5.481/262.28, Now #4

12:26 p.m. and we're back after a cleanup in the right lane. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 29.40 inches, adjusted altitude 3,062 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

It's gotten a little warmer since we began this session. A couple of decent runs, both right down the center of the track.

Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.384/264.60, Now #5
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.334/266.74, Now #2

A couple of good looking run, both right down the groove. Reichert moves into the second spot, Whiteley into the fifth.
